Default Using the Network Jack on the back of the Ultimate TV box.

Howdy, new user here.
So here's the dilemma. We have MTS Ultimate TV in the house with 5 boxes. One in the basement, one on the main floor and three upstairs in bedrooms. Our Ewire box is hooked up on the main floor and connects to the box there. We don't have any ethernet ports hardwired in the house, just coaxial for the boxes and generally use wireless to connect to the internet.

My PS-3 is downstairs and was connected through wireless. I noticed that the connection was a bit spotty, probably because it is a distance from the Ewire. The MTS box is right by it and I noticed that there is a "Network" ethernet connection on the MTS box. On a whim I plugged in the PS-3 ethernet into that port and got a hardwired connection through it! The MTS tv was still working fine. Later I used the network port in the back of the box in my son's room to connect his computer and it worked fine and then also hooked up an ethernet cable on the box in our room to hardwire my Macbook because the wireless is a bit spotty there, and again it worked without any problems.

Well know I got a newer Macbook and tried to hook it up to the same port in our room and it did not work. The network diagnostics said that the cable was not connected. I tried it on the box where the PS-3 is connected with the same results, but the PS-3 works fine when it was plugged back in.

I plugged it directly into the Ewire and it worked fine, so it is not the ethernet port or cable on my new laptop.

So what would allow the port on the back of the MTS box to work with one device but not others?
Thanks for any help in advance!

Default

it is 2wire by the way not EWire

MTS does not advise using the Ethernet plugs on the back of the STBs for internet access as it may could eventually cause issues with the TV service. We only use them if we are running a CAT5 to feed the STBs.

I am not too sure why one device would work and not another. That is strange.
