I need help troubleshooting a stacked LNB satellite system. The system is on a large building and was not installed by me. They have an old weinguard SK-0203 LNB, one or two in line amplifiers 950 - 250 MHZ.
At the headend which is on one of the lower floors, there is a power inserter Zinwel SPS1750 which powers up the in lne amps and LNB. The output goes to a two way power passing Toner splitter which feeds 2 Sonora D575 d stackers. The output of these d stackers feed the 13 and 18 volt inputs on a powered Channel Master multi switch. Yes, I know this stuff is old. They have 3 receivers. 2 are model Bell 2700 receivers and 1 is a Bell 3100 receiver. The 2 - 2700 receivers are locked on satellite 91, good signal level, picture, and says satellite locked with green bar. The 3100 receiver gives me a signal bar around 80 but it is in red and says wrong satellite. The channels they are receiving are 126, 501, and 502. If I put any of these channels into the 3100 I get the red bar saying wrong satellite but if any of these channels are put into the 2700 receivers they are all green and say locked. Can anyone tell me why this is - is there a difference between the receivers? They had signal outage which prompted the service call and I peaked the dish but I do not understand why the 3100 is acting as it is. Yes they need a upgraded system, better wiring, etc... but they are moving so they do not want to have to have the whole building wired. The system is located in NYC, NY so Bell will not help me. I did a check switch on the 3100 and it gave me over 13 volts, 18 volts XX.and sat 91 If everything holds and the bar stays red, I will be happy and just leave it. But if I get a call back I would like to understand why the above is happening and what I can do about it since they are a good client and even if they move it will probably not be for another year. Any help would be appreciated. |

Try one of the 2700s in the location where the 3100 is. At least then you can rule out whether it's a receiver or a cabling issue. Unless of course you've already tried this... in that case I'm no help. Residential stuff I could do with my eyes closed, but with systems like this my knowledge is very limited.

Hi Joe
yes I tried that This system is using an old Stacked wiengrad LNB.and pointed to 91. anything else dose not matter. The question is why do older bell 2700 Rx lock on in green and the 3100 says wrong satellite in red but shows picture. when they lose signal the old channel master 13v 18v muilt switch goes clicking . When heavy rain goes away and system trys to come back the 3100 keeps it clicking until some goes to the rack and power reboots the mulit Sw remember this is an old channel master muliti switch. the 3100 won't lock on any channel but switched with the 2700 Rx all channels lock Dose any one know why this would happen?? 2700 VS 3100 thier must be a difference. if the client could get another 2700 with good card mybe this would fix itself. But I can't get a 2700 with good card. Thanks. any Ideas would be greatly apprecicated Cessna 172 |

Just as an FYI, we have a US reception thread, link below. I'm not sure if you're affected by that at this point, but you may be in the future...
