Default Garmin GPS

Looking at getting a new GPS for a second car we now have. I have an older Garmin 260w and find it works good, although maps are out dated and there is no map upgrades for free. So started researching today and the nuvi 2455LMT caught my attention. Radioworld has it on sale for $180 CDN right now. Anyone have any thoughts?

Costco has the 3760LMT for $200. slimmer, nicer screen, better battery, bluetooth.

Buy it. It's a great deal - lots of technology for the money. Slow map rendering, but with lifetime free updates it's an amazing value.

If you can wait for boxing week, do your research beforehand and pick one up (or order) one during boxing week. Several different Garmin LMT units were on sale last year for under $150. 4.3 and 5" screen sizes. I've had my 1350LMT for almost two years and I'm quite pleased. I download new maps about 3 times a year (usually a few weeks before I go on a vacation drive).

Note that the memory inside the unit isn't enough for downloads after a while since the downloads get bigger as information gets added. You can remove non-essential files (like voice files, etc). Discussed in the following threads, or get additional memory, or download a map with less info:

I purchase a microSD card and downloaded a Europe map onto it (Costs $ obviously) and used it on my last trip to Europe. Definitely worth it if you're driving (or walking) around there.

Visions Electronics consistently has refurbished Garmin units on sale for under $100. With lifetime map updates, which is a must-have these days.

I'm in a similar situation to you - I love my 255W but don't feel like paying $80? for the map update. Would rather just replace it with a newer model, preferably 5".

If the 3760LMT is available for $200, that's $100 off MSRP. It's rated 9.4/10 so that would be my choice. Beats the 2455LMT for a measly $20 extra, and is well worth it.

Also when you download the new map, just get rid of the old one off the unit, to save space

The previous map is automatically deleted and there's no room for two maps (of the original NA area) on a GPS without memory upgrade. For example, the last map I downloaded is about 1.6 GB and the GPS only has 2 GB total. Even after deleting many non-essential files, I only have a few MB left since some space is taken by essential files.

Not sure if some units come with more storage or not, may depend on the unit.

3760LMT has 4GB internal storage. also lifetime maps and very quick route calculation/recalc compared to my older garmin. Make sure you do all the system updates as there were several issues with factory firmware and led to alot of bad reviews when it was released.

It was onsale several months ago for $170 at Costco so it may hit that price again. $200 is their regular price for this unit.
