Coby dvd player 255 region free?

My friend is looking for a region free player (his broke down) and was asking me if I knew of a player. I was at Canada Computers a couple of weeks ago and saw a Coby dvd player (I believe it was the 255 model) and it says right on the box that is supports NTSC and PAL. I've been doing some research here and online and people have all stated that no player comes out of the box region free and ready to go. All need to be programmed using the remote. Is this true or is the particular model region free right away?

I went on Coby's website and found no such model number. Is it because they only advertise US models on there? I'm not 100% sure that it's a 255 but I know it looks exactly like the dvd 224 model.

Can anyone shed some light on this? He wants a player right away and I don't want to have him buy this only to take it home and it won't play his UK discs. Thanks.
