Default Very Strange Problem On Motorola DCT 2224

I get snow on all channels including sound, whether it is connect through composite or via coax from VCR.

However, if I press Guide, the guide is shown with the black background and the snow sounds.

I phoned Shaw. Tech coming tomorrow.

Anyone else had this?

I think that means you have been converted to DNU and no longer have analog signals. Try connecting your cable directly to your TV and see if there are any analog channels still there. I could be wrong but I was of the impression that the old 2xxx series boxes would not work once DNU was completed. Since the guide comes from a graphics generator in the box itself, that would explain why you can still see it.

If this is the cause of your issue, Shaw should be offering you a DCT700, I believe, to replace the now obsolete 2224 in your case. Do let us know what happens when the Tech comes tomorrow.

I connected directly from coax from the wall to the TV and it is fine.

Well then, it's probably a dead tuner in the 2224. If you aren't already a 'Shaw Friend' or Triple Play customer, I would suggest you sign up right away in order to get the 'lifetime warranty'. If you have it already, Shaw will likely offer you a DCT700 as a replacement unless they happen to have an old DCT2xxx kicking around.

Good thing. Do let us know what box they offer you as a replacement. Also, just in case the Tech tells you there is nothing he can do, be sure to mention to him and that you understand the 'lifetime warranty' should mean you get some kind of replacement. Let's hope you don't have to tell the Tech how to do his job.

I woke up this morning to find somethings interesting.

I change the channel to 51 (Space) and I had video and audio. I changed it back to 45 (TFC) and it had snow on it. All digital channels have the One Moment Please message and all analog channels have snow on it.

I will post an update when they come this afternoon and if they switch boxes and what box I get.

The tech came. He replaced it with the 700. All is working.

It is so tiny compared to the 2224.

It is, and no clock display, which I really don't like. Oh well, at least you didn't have to pay for anything.

I don't like the no clock either but the 700 rarely gets used and it was free.
