The solution is simple: don't watch edited movies on TV. Buy it, Nexflix it, download it if you want to see it in all it's unedited glory.

Exactly! I haven't watched a theatrical movie on commercial TV for decades. Even if they don't edit for time, language or aspect ratio, they break for commercials at the most inopportune times.

LOL .. Yes another classic censorship howl... funny how these added an additional comedic element ... I was one of those 'youngsters' during the time of my previous reference. I distinctly remember laughing at school the following day .. saying Summmm*itch, more often than the movie did. They made a big deal of it... so we did too... Note: Was smart enough by then to keep it in the playground.. not around Mom... Censorship works.... lol... Recommending viewing btw... if you like classics!!! |

I think some common sense needs to be used with airing movies. If there is so much swearing that is required to be edited, then it's probably not a good idea to air it at all. Seems silly to me though that in this day and age that profanity on TV is still an issue. |

Hehe, much more lax with the swearing here, Ive heard the c-bomb twice on TV in primetime during my life. Both times on pre-recorded material from a public broadcaster.
S-bomb, F-bomb, genitalia terms, can all be heard on Aussie TV, after 830, and occasionally before. occasionally an american will tour oz for the first time [after 830 interview], and they'll be like "Are you s***ting me, I can say d**k on TV? wait can i say s**t?" LOL Not to give the wrong impression, as much content is american, we dont get blasted with swearing every day or anything |

North Americans are a bunch of prudes when it comes to public media. Just how traumatized can a young person be by seeing Janet Jackson's nipple or hearing the occasional swear word? Canadians tend to be nicer prudes than Americans, and to less extreme, but still much more concerned than Europe. It appears that Aussies have more common sense as well. The irony is that kids see and hear much worse from their peers than they ever would on public TV.

I agree with this one. If they haven't edited the movie for content, most stations will edit it to fit their time-slot (much worse IMHO). With all the other ways to watch movies, I have given up watching them on most stations. The only exception is TVO as they show them unedited and uninterrupted, but they tend to show older movies.
