i've been told by a shaw direct "tech" that to continue receiving a signal from shaw direct satellites, i have to turn off my receiver once in a while. is this true or was the tech spewing b.s.?

BS. Most of my receivers stay on all the time. Mind you, they are older models, a 505 the newest. My 315 has not been turned off except for long term power outages (it is on a UPS with the TiVo).
The 605 I got earlier this year gets turned off by the remote, along with the TV. |

Bell TV receivers MUST be turned off to receive any firmware updates. I don't know, but maybe Shaw receivers must be off too, to receive firmware updates. If this is correct, then people should be turning them off because you wouldn't know when Shaw is sending out firmware updates. |
