Not crazy about the way CBC and the NHL worked out the Hockey Day in Canada gig. Yes WIN-PIT was a great call (WIN-DET/BUF would had also worked) but both games at 2pm? Why not go 1,4,7,10 or 12:30, 3:30, 6:30 pregame, 7:00, 10:00. Would had made more sense to me than splitting the nation. Meanwhile the Jets get 20 games. Not bad, when the Leafs have 26. Major advantage for CBC having the Jets in the east this year.

Even when Winnipeg moves to the Western Conference next year, there could be just as many Jets games on the HNIC schedule. Saturday home games could still start at 6pm CT but would just feature more Western Conference opponents obviously, plus there will be more opportunities to have them visiting Calgary, Edmonton, and Vancouver for the late game.

The reason for HNIC not doing a continuous quadruplet header is that the CBC likes to do a live show from where HDIC is taking place looking at the grass roots of hockey after the first game of the day. The Jets are on the CBC 21 times (19 Saturdays and two Sundays).

I agree it will be at that time, it just depends who is telling who to do that. The reason I think it is the Jets telling the CBC what to do is because in the past, the CBC has asked american teams in the Central timezone to start a game at 2100h Central and they quickly refused. Some of the teams decline the 1800h Central start to accomodate HNIC as they prefer the 1900h puck drop.

But remember those are American teams. They did not care if their game gets shown on CBC or not. The Jets do and they will move up the game to 7pm Eastern.

Sorry about that DSgamby, I do not have the quote option so I do it manually and with multiple windows, I overlooked that. It is corrected now.
That is ok and thanks.

Opening night = Ontario provincial election

As you know Oct 6 is opening night and HNIC has a doubleheader scheduled. That day is also election day in Ontario and local CBC stations usually have election coverage. Anyone know what the Ontario CBC stations will do re: hockey vs election coverage?

Considering the issue only affects the Leafs region, I started the discussion there. It is an Ontario provincial election after all. I get that not everyone likes the Leafs, but since it is only the Leafs region and not the entire nationwide HNIC broadcast that is affected, I figured that thread was the better place to voice my concern.

I don't know if it's possible at this point for anyone to do something about it, but perhaps it would have been more wise for me to have started a new thread instead.

Just to be clear, it isn't JUST Leafs region affected. Sens region (Ottawa valley) and Jets region (Thunder Bay-to-western boarder) are also affected by this. However the only game that night on the schedule is a Leafs-Habs game, so best to probably say just Ontario viewers are affected by this.
