Note that the Win8 upgrade must be installed from the Windows desktop. Upgrade media like a USB drive will only do a clean install.

Thanks for the tip! I guess I made that .iso for nothing then LOL.

I have the add supported version of Office 2010 (the click to run version that makes a Q drive) looks like that guy is not compatible either and has to come off!

*edit* I was pretty sure the ad supported version of Office 2010 was flagged as not compatible as well as security essentials. As I started working through the upgrade (this morning) however, it prompted me to remove MSE but not the Office. I am hopeful it will still work after the upgrade, we shall see, I will report back.

Run a cleanup utility. Then another. No joy. One lousy incompatible program left preventing installation. Cleaned out the registry. Phooey. Hours down the drain. Should have done a clean install in the first place. Now, more hours wasted installing and configuring everything from scratch. The words to describe this upgrade are unprintable.
Same here. I followed all the instructions, and after 4 hours gave up as the circled thingy kept on going around. I rebooted, it gave me Win 7, Win 8 , or Win 8 upgrade options. None worked. It asked to repair Win 7, that worked. So I am back on Win 7 after $40 and 5 hours to download, install, etc. Waste of my time. I give up and won't be upgrading any of my PC's.

Downloaded windows 8 from Microsoft site.....did take about ninety minutes for the whole process. No problems and works like a charm. The brain wants to revert back to the old ways and I catch myself not really knowing what to do for a few minutes. Will continue to play with it. I really like the crispness of the graphics and the whole concept of tablet like use. My next move will be to buy the touch screen monitor when the price drops a bit .......around Xmas Not a fan of tablets and continue to be old school without a cell phone.

I did the download last night too. I made an image of my win7 insurance then took the iso option then made install disk. I then backed up the win8 iso and key info on a serate drive. I then did a upgrade to win8 bare no old software settings just a bare bones install.
It went perfectly. Once installed found the area to go and get updates and then when that ran through I shut down. Made a image of the raw updated Win8 install.
I then ran the image software put my win7 back, put in empty drive restored the win8 image to the empty drive. I can now choose a boot drive ( OS) from the boot menu and have both OS's for me in that way I can explore win8 try installing the items I want one by one and after each install make a new image so I am able to build the win8 system and have a safe fall back image just in case Learned the hard way to many times.
I am happy so far with the new OS Win8 but I am just getting started?

That seems like the long way around. I just restored the Win7 image to a new drive, made it the boot drive in BIOS and then installed Win8 over it. It dual boots from within the Win8 boot sequence as well. Win8 even lets you change boot parameters from the boot menu. Nice job on that MS.

Had my first Win8 lockup. White screen of death. No diagnostics. It happened after installing Nero so I'll blame it on that.

Wintv7 installed great and the drivers for 1250 and colosus card all went great.
Ya it is a lot of images but it is very for me just to go full force and install many and then have a lockup or worse so I go at a hare's speed

I paid $15.74 for win 8. Great deal if you ask me. Only took 3 minutes to download it too. Going to install it later on today. If it works out ok I may buy a couple more copies.

That's the price if you bought a Windows 7 system in June or later.
