Is it possible that they can disable the IR receiver remotely?
I turned my box on, havent watched tv in a while, and my universal remote didn't work, so i take the motorola one, nothing either... So i change the batteries, in both, nothing. I call, they reset the box, nothing. Then, they notice i gave my 30 day notice for leaving cable tv, and blame it on that... I was still getting channels, i could still use the buttons on the box, but they said that they locked my remote receiver in the box because im cancelling my account in 30 days. THey tell me they'll have to temporarily activate my account to reset the box and then put me back on my "30 day notice period" to fix it. I lost channels for a few hours... They promised a tech to come check my signals because they were "way too high" and my box didnt "reply"... When i got channels back the remote wasnt working better. Tech comes, changes the remote, tries fresh batteries, scratches his head. I explain what they said, sounds like it would be a first for him... they reset the box again, etc... I have a hard time believing that they would do that ? I dunno, he had to change the STB to fix this problem, and it did fix it. But can they or would they really do that ?? I find it odd that they admit to it, really.... |

I guess anything's possible, but it sounds a lot more likely to me that it broke at a coincidental time, and the person on the phone just didn't know what they were talking about. Maybe they get a bonus for trying to reset your 30 day cancellation or something.

I have a problem a few week ago, my box no longer receiving the signal from the remote, change the battery, also try mom's remote, nothing. But my remote work fine with my mom's box.
So we had a tech come in and he says that my box was defective and he replace both my box and remote and now everything work fine. |

It's what he did to me too, replaced the box, now it works.
I just don't get why they would admit to the fact that they can and did block remote signals just because i gave my 30 day notice... Like even if they can't... it would not make sense to admit to that, it just looks... bad in my opinion! Last edited by 57; 2012-07-27 at 01:52 PM. Reason: UQR |

The other day I had a STB that wasn't responsive to the remote, but a cold reboot fixed the issue. Sometimes stuff just happens and CSRs make stuff up to explain it.
