I just got a letter from Sirius Canada raising rates from $7.99 to $9.99 for secondary radios. Not that big a deal considering XM Canada has been charging $9.99 for a few years already.
In the letter Sirius Canada announced that they will be introducing a way for subscribers to get more talk/music very soon.

Thats crazy, Sirius XM need to lower or eliminate monthly fees for additional radios, not increase them.
Imagine if you had to pay for a subscription for every cable or satellite box that you have (ie $75 for the first box, $60 for each additional box in your house). I love satellite radio, but the pricing needs to come down for the masses to buy into it. I think it should be $10 a month for service for up to 4 radios for a household. |

There is no way that extra radio fees will be eliminated. Sirius/XM pays music royalty fees based on a percentage of revenue. The RIAA is already requesting a more lucrative royalty model so Sirius XM must keep revenues up in order to appease them. In addition, it is too easy to abuse extra radios on a single account. Sirius XM has no way to track how they are being used or who is using them. Can you imagine how many account sharers there would be if extra radios had no monthly fees?
It looks like Sirius XM is adjusting prices of the two former services to bring them in line. The way they appear to be doing that is raising them to the higher of the two services, wherever they differ. Considering their financial situation, that is not surprising. |

Just to point out this is not Sirius XM, it's Sirius Canada, a separate company.

NHL on sirius isn't going to happen unless you get a US sub with the best of XM. you're better off getting XM now, you'll get NHL, MLB and a couple more channels than sirius has.

I probally would have XM if I could choose, but my new Ford has Sirius built in, so I don't really have a choice in the matter unless I wanted to buy an XM reciever which would be pointless and look crappy when I have Sirius built right in with no wires or anything

Wrong.
US rates go to $8.99 (US)/month on March 11. If you renew before then you can lock in at $6.99. |
