Default HD cable with Monitor / Home Theatre

I have a 9 yr old Samsung DLP - Colour wheel about to go. cost about $400 installed maybe $200 if I do it myself....
Can I go to a 50" HD ready MONITOR only - do not need speakers and run through home theatre.
Will this be cheaper for me and is it possible.
Look forward to your expertise and comments..

Monitors are specialty items and are typically more expensive and much rarer than TVs. Suggest you look at TVs even though you don't need the speakers.
