Default Pioneer VSX-1326-K Problem - Intermittent Signal

Hello again,

I had this receiver working perfectly with my installation, and then today I tried to turn it on and the signal was "flashing".
I turned the PVR on via Harmony Link, and the TV fired up, the PVR fired up, and the receiver fired up.
I heard about .5 seconds of audio. The TV appeared to be switching, then stopped with the audio.
Then it cycled again, .5 seconds of audio, no video, over and over.

I replaced the cables that I could (PVR to receiver), and tested the cables that are in conduit (receiver to television).
The 50' HDMI cable sends a perfect signal when connected directly to the PVR.

At the front of the receiver the HDMI indicator light in blinking with the intermittent signal.
The manual states a number of remedies, none of which have worked.
The problem is not with my cables, or with any of my other gear. It seems isolated to the receiver, on all inputs.
Can't find any information online yet.
Pioneer's rep is on lunch.

Any ideas?

I did a reset, with no luck.
I continue to have the same issue.

Here's a list of HDMI issues. Try to turn on the Pioneer first as noted in item 28: Do this manually instead of using the Harmony

Do you have a repeater for a cable that long? What gauge is the cable? It's possible the connection was "good enough", but perhaps now the electrical connection is not as good as it once was. 50' is way beyond a "normal" installation. There's a list of "things to check" at the bottom of the HDMI FAQ - try those - like unplugging/replugging the cable(s) at both ends to ensure a good electrical connection, especially at the TV.

Does the AVR's OSD work properly? If not, that would indicate a connection issue from the AVR to the TV.

Or the single long HDMI output cable. Some devices generate a stronger signal - that's why the PVR could work and the AVR not (even though it was once working) If you can, try a shorter (temporary) cable from the AVR to the TV.

Are you still hooked up in the complicated way indicated in the following?

Hi 57, thanks for the response.
I tested the 50' cable and it works.
I connected it too another source with no problems.
I will go through the lists you linked here in the meantime.

There is no repeater, and also, the cable and this installation are about 5 days old.

Just because it works for one device doesn't mean it'll work for another - different signal strengths (I once had a subwoofer cable that worked fine with one AVR but not with another - same goes for HDMI - 50' (even 30') will often not work properly without a repeater). I added some more info and questions to my previous post - reread please.

Hi, Just an update.
And thank you 57. The more I read your information the more I learn, so thanks for being such a killer contributor to this place.

So I spent about an hour going over all the possibilities you outlined. I tested 3 separate HDMI cables, 3', 6', 8' cables.
I had an extra HDTV sitting around I was able to haul over to the island.
I connected each cable to a different device to test both cables and devices.
Both with and without the receiver.
Nothing was working [through the receiver] and the problem persisted.
I got on the phone with a pioneer tech who ran me through a few more things, and at the end of the day it was decided the HDMI controller board was fried.
I returned the receiver with no problems, and will be hooking things up later tonight.
Now I'm just wondering if it was my surveillance that fried the board.
The output from DVI->HDMI and the forced lower resolution might have been the culprit. But this is just speculation.

Thanks again, have a great weekend.

Sorry 57, yes the elaborate setup still persists.
However this time I am adding repeaters before hooking things back up.
I'm heading into Sayal now to grab some.
It sounds [and i'm doing more reading here] like I should not be using this 50' cable at all. With or without a repeater.

I think it depends on the type of the repeater, whether 50' can be used. Note that I believe repeaters go on the "far" end, not at the "near" end, counter-intuitive. Check the installation instructions carefully.

I've opted for HDMI over RJ45.
I've run 4 x 50' RJ45 cables [2 to each television], and used 3' HDMI cables on either end.
I'll report back tonight when I get the new receiver back in it's cabinet.
I'll post some images and specifications on the hardware I found.

The 2 x 50' HDMI cables that are already in the conduit will have to be used for something else that it doesn't have problems transmitting. Perhaps it would be safer to output the surveillance computer via these 50' cables, directly from computer to television. This way I eliminate the possibility of bricking my new receiver.

Question about the sound quality, i am considering getting the pioneer 1126 k, which is a step down from the 1326 k. The 1126 k and 1326 k share the same user manual and the power rating and features are almost identical. How has the sound quality been with your 1326 k? any negatives besides thoses already stated?
