Ya, I have been getting 20/15 steady since the 26th here on the north side of Fredericton.

And for the record, this is the second speed boost in as many years. The bottom tier used to be 7/7, then changed to 15/15.

As for Rogers, honestly, at this point, I am just wondering how much longer till they just cut their losses in Atl Can and sell it all to Eastlink. I know far too many people that have made the switch to FiberOp internet and will not switch back for anything.

I can just hope for our Ontario BELL brethren that they soon can taste the FTTH unlimited nectar that we have here in Atl Can. If Bell had the guts to roll the same policies in Ontario, Rogers would SERIOUSLY be in trouble!!!

Watching or reading the ads for ROGERS in Atlantic are sad really. Even with their promises of "insert wow words here", they will never compete with Aliant for internet speeds. As for HD channels, they might have a slight edge on Aliant but the margin is getting thinner as the months go by. It's just a matter of time before Aliant has access to more channels. Their pipe is after all, much bigger than ROGERS for bandwidth.

I too had been wondering for a few years now how long it will take before Rogers does sell to Eastlink,

When Bragg Communications first started buying up Small cable companies in NS and PEI to form Eastlink, the plan was to have NB also, however they didn't have the $$$ to buy Fundy Cable at the time, and Rogers beat them to it.

Mind you Eastlink does have a footprint in Ontario, Quebec and Western Canada as well, so they could do some form of a Trade off with Rogers. Only Time Shall tell.

It does appear that Eastlink is trying to Compete with Aliant though unlike Rogers...

Actually, Shaw beat them to it, and some time later Rogers traded some other area in Canada for what had been Fundy.

Default Bell Aliant raised internet speeds for "free"

I just got a Bell Aliant post on my wall via Facebook and read what it said "FibreOP is the FASTEST internet available and it just got even FASTER for free! Download a 250 MB video in under a minute. What else can you do in less than 60 seconds?".

I checked Aliant's website and it's official. The first package now starts at 20/15, second 50/30 and third 80/30.

What do you all think about this?

For me, they should be raising the speeds, because they are raising the prices.

Edit: Just realized that it was posted on Facebook on Friday... Wow, lame Facebook.

Default FiberOP Internet New and Old by the numbers

You can look at numbers many different ways. The way Aliant would like you to look at it is that before you paid for 15/15 or 30/30 or 70/30 and now your getting better for the same price.

That is true... But but some people did much better in this change then others.

For example people who had
- 15/15 received a 30% increase
- 30/30 received a 60% increase
- 70/30 received a 15% increase

Another way to look at it was if you had 30/30 and you paid $15 for the upgrade you received a 133% increase in speed. If you now have 50/30 and you pay $15 you will now get a 60% increase.

Finally lets look at the value per megabit of download speed:
Speed Mbps Price Price Per Mbps
20 $68.95 $3.45
50 $83.95 $1.68
80 $100.95 $1.26
250 $249.95 $1.00

So the most cost effective solution is the 250 megabit plan! But the big difference in value is between the 20 and new 50 plans with about half the cost per megabit.

Great Breakdown

As much as I like the speed increases all I can think of is that they increased our monthly rates in early july, then our speeds. I'd much rather have keep my 3.00
30mbs or 50mbs....it's still a matter of minutes for my file :P

^^^^ No matter how you look at it, they have the power to bill us like they want to. We have the power to cancel when we want to.

Even with the increase, no caps for me is the deal breaker.

Not to nit pick but only FO in Atlantic Canada is unlimited. The Sudbury FO has caps.
