Right, so if they gave me the filters that are at the POE and the modem, along with the units, I can't just install them myself and tell Rogers I have done so...

Default bought a used rouger nextbox and it all worked!!

hi all

this is my first time post my question here. thanks for you all who review or share your wonderful ideas.

i am a rogers customer who is renting a hd tv terminal. i recently bought a used rogers nextbox pvr. the owner was not the real owner. someone else gave the box the him. and he has no rogers tv service at all. he just wanted to use the hard drive only.

anyway, i got this box and plugged in. it started working like charm. it did not ask me to activate at all. but i noticed there are more channels than i subscribed.

can anyone tell me if it is ok to continue to use this box? will rogers find that i am using this tv box and watching the channels that i did not even pay for them?

i did a bit research for buying a used rogers tv box. it should be disassociated from the previous owner. and i can activate it with my name. but there is no way to find the first guy who rented or bought this box. so what should i do at this point?

thanks in advance,

Frank

Please read posts 1, 2 of this thread to see what you should have done. You are likely seeing the channels to which the original owner subscribed. If it was a rental, you have thrown your money away and the box will be deactivated shortly. If it was owned by the original owner, it's possible that Rogers may now activate it on your account. (although that scenario is unlikely given the information in your post).

As for the "free" channels, eventually those should go away as well when the box is unable to provision.

I have Rogers basic cable and have a PVR in my living room. I bought a LCD tv for my room and was wondering if I can buy a Rogers HD PVR on kijiji? would it work? thanks!

It might work. First, you would have to make sure that the serial number is registered in the Rogers data base. You would also have to make sure that the previous customer had deactivated it. There have been numerous cases of people buying used equipment on sites like Kijiji only to discover that the equipment was never issued by Rogers in the first place or that someone is trying to sell a previous rental unit from Rogers that was never removed from the original account. Always call Rogers first to check the status of the equipment you are purchasing. You could get burned!
