Bell now tend to keep receivers alive, rather than just kill them.
Anyway, enjoy while you can, they will not work at ALL later this year......lol |

Those receivers were swapped out with new receivers. They are useless. You can't activate them and after August 1 you won't be able to get a signal.
The are truly boat anchors. |

ah, got it...end of MPEG-2...but, SD will still be in the stream....so, since I don't have HD LNB's, I may "keep them" for SD

I don't have a 6100 but I can tell you for sure if you disconnect a 2700 from the stream it will lose all its channels after a couple of months or sooner.

The 6100's will be removed from the list of active receivers, so you will see NOTHING after the swap to MPEG4, NOTHING, not even SD.

I see a few used 2700 and 3100 models available on Kijiji. I know the 2700s are ancient, but would a 3100 be a good used choice?

Even old 2700 if they are cheap enough still work well and without issue if you don't mind it to be sluggish at time, I added one for someone a few weeks back so they are still supported

The 3100 is a good old workhorse of a receiver, there are hundreds of thousands out there working without a glitch. I would say it is a much better choice than the newer 4100 and way better than a 2700.
The price on 5900's is low enough too so if you were thinking of getting into a PVR that would be a good choice too. |

I was talking to my mother a few days ago, and in conversation, mentioned my current satellite issues. She then asks me if I want her old receiver, which I believe is a 5900. They haven't had a Bell account for probably 3 years now, and I wasn't aware she still had the receiver, or I would have taken it off her hands back then.
I remember the process of transfering a 2700 over to me a few years ago from my dad (who has a Bell account), and wonder what kind of hassle I'm going to get doing this with my mom's old receiver now, all these years after closing her Bell account? |
