Extreme Channel folded. I don't remember what it was called but I remember it being on Channel 412. It was part of bell's sports 2 theme pack. When it folded Channel 413 CBS Sports Network was added.
But with they way the CRTC is giving away licences to broadcasters/individuals, you'd think it was like a kid scoring a "candy loot heist" on Halloween Night. LOL
This is sports channel already available on Dish Network.I expect it launch on Fibe TV in a 2-5 months. As Fibe seems to carry almost every ethnic service available in Canada as well as all the Greek Channels.
So why is it that the CRTC is the bad guy on this one? Their policy is to approve pretty much any Cat B offering as long as it is a proper Cat B. From there it is up to the licence holder to convince BDUs and the public that the channel is worthy.
Approving a Cat B does not mean it will get off the ground, only that the owner can try. And I am all for that. That doesn't mean I will subscribe, but I believe Mr. Christopher Knight and other like him have the right to give it a shot.
I agree this is not the CRTC's issue. Having said that this station sounds dubious because why would I wait for some scheduled program when i could go to youtube, wikipedia or a vendors website to find out some random FAQ information. This sounds like it should be a youtube channel in any case and not a licenced service. It is only about a decade or so behind the times.
You guys actually believe this is good channel?
I don't think this channel will ever launch? Then again I've sen some other on the channel line up that I wouldn't expect either.
It's not the CRTC's job to decide if it's a "good" channel. It's their job to decide if it complies with the acts and regulations.
It should be up to the market to decide if it survives or not. That's how a free economy is supposed to work. If people want to pay for it, then good for them.
Our system is far from a free market right now, but the CRTC handled it correctly.
And if you still don't understand what the FAQ is the FAQ, then RTFM!
Now here's the interesting part. What made the applicant believe their channel would be popular enough to require formal CRTC licensing at all? Any channel with less than 200,000 subscribers is exempt from licensing. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category_B_services
Personally I think that will be a good and interesting channel. It certainly be alot better that all those reality tv and crime channels. All i wish is that FAQ.tv would be available on the package we have.
If your provider doesn't want to carry it(new or existing channel)or if the providers won't pick it up, then how does the channel get subs if no provider will carry it?
That would be the part where our system isn't a true free market right now, yes.Equally problematic is if they just stick it in a package with better channels and it freeloads (I'm looking at you, OLN that is nothing but Storage Wars reruns).
