Thank you, bigorangenet, and that is an excellent list. Just a couple small errors should be noted that Eastlink does indeed carry Disney Jr. in HD, and also, I think that TFO HD is carried on Eastlink in Ontario.
WGN-TV from Chicago, being the local CW affiliate and often stylized as WGN9, is authorized for redistribution in Canada. WGN America is not authorized for redistribution.
Same import scenario as WPCH (formerly WTBS) and TBS Superstation.
Then why do some providers carry WGN America if it's not authorized. I do remember a few years back when Rogers did have WGN America but switched the feed to Chicago.
I'm not sure why but I know for a fact that Cogeco's SD feed is WGN America. Their HD feed is WGN-DT. As for MTS both the SD and HD feed is WGN America.
Cogeco and MTS have their own direct link (possibly from C-Band) of WGN-DT and WGN America. Shaw Broadcast Services distributed WGN America to many of the Canadian BDUs for a long period of time but switched over to WGN-DT (as it should had always been based on import rules) a few years back to WGN-DT. The change occurred when WGN-DT split the majority of its programming from WGN America and if memory serves was around the time the WPCH/TBS fiasco happened (which drew some attention to the rules for the proper importing of foreign stations).
No one (cough CRTC cough) really has called the remaining BDUs out on this, which is why they get away with it.
I'd rather have the WGN America feed. We get all the CW programming from WPIX and KTLA and almost all the syndicated shows on WGN-DT are also on WPIX-DT and KTLA-DT. WGN America at least offers more variety. Canada really lacks general interest channels such as TBS, WGN, USA Network, TNT etc.
Pretty much every BDU carried the WGN Supersation feed and TBS Superstation feed for a long time, the only one that carried the local feeds was Bell. I believe sometime in 2002-2003, Shaw Broadcast/Cancom switched the TBS feed to the Atlanta feed and in early 2007 Shaw Broadcast switched the WGN feed to the Chicago feed.
Prior to Peachtree TV, the satellite feed and local feed was almost identical; the only difference being some required EI programming and local public affairs programming. The WGN Satellite feed and local feed has always been different since 1989 when Syndex rules came into place.
Same goes for WWOR New York. For the few cable systems that carried this channel, WWOR's satellite feed was very different from the local feed from 1989-1997 yet it was the satellite feed that Canadian BDU's carried.
bigoranget, there seems to be errors in the Missing HD Channels for Shaw Cable. Hollywood Suite channels are still listed as missing as is W Network HD.
