Since so many members take it upon themselves to complain about the CRTC, especially in threads that have nothing to with the CRTC, we thought we would create this thread.
Rules of the Forum say that we delete threads or posts that say this company sucks or that person sucks or the government sucks because they servce no purpose and seldom add any value, however, we are going to wave that rule in this thread!
(Please note that legitimate complaints that actually describe customer service problems and point out potential issues and/or solutions, warn people of legitimate issues, or engage people in meaningful discussion are always welcome in all forums!)
But back to the CRTC.
Here's your chance to let it out! and even say things like "the crtc sucks!"
So here it is, the place to bash the CRTC and not have your post deleted!
(of course the bulk of the rules of this forum still apply here!)
CRTC are a bunch of damn nazi crack addicts!!! They're not licencing popular niche american cable networks, which is absolute bs, CRTC rather prefers simsubs than granting licences to popular non-canadian networks? More maudlin rubbish!!!!!
First the Popular Niche American Cable Networks must apply to get licenses.
Simsubs has nothing to do with Popular Niche American Cable Networks not getting licenses in Canada.
CTV, Global, CITY and the other channels bought rights for the shows and they are the right holders to show those shows in Canada. Not NBC, CBS, ABC or Fox. The US channel/Cable provider has 3 options.
For the channel, they can show alternate programming in Canada. This is done during the Olympics on the NBC offshoot channels and NFL Network when they have games as Sportsnet has those games and Sportsnet has the rights to those games in Canada.
The cable provider at the request of the Canadian channel can simsub their signal over the US channel. The cable provider can also blacked out the US channel.
They are being like them, becuz they're not giving Canadian fans of American cable networks unavailable here, what they want, and based on petition forums, one person called the CRTC nazis, so I have every right to call them this.
Question: Is the CRTC funded by us, the Canadian taxpayers, or do are they funded by license fees from radio and TV stations?
If they are taxpayer funded, I do not appreciate my tax money being used to deny me the channels I want like TNT. If funded by license fees, well, it is the fox guarding the henhouse. They should rename it Bell-Rogers Telecommunications Commission as all the rulings are in the interests of Bell, Rogers, and other big corporations anyway!
DSGamby: A fourth option would be for CTV, Global, etc to air Canadian programming, then there is no reason to sim-sub.
DSGamby: How do you know the American channels don't want to be in Canada? It is just not worth it to fight the bureaucracy and the iron curtain imposed on Canada by Bell Rogers and their CRTC minions.
When people at the CRTC die, I hope they have to endure an eternity of watching repeats of the Beachcombers, Front Page Challenge for the suffering they inflicted on Canadians since they were founded.

I actually liked Front Page Challenge. I would even turn away from the TV and mute the sound for 20 seconds when they introduced the mystery guest just to play along.
The CRTC reports to the Parliament of Canada through the Minister of Canadian Heritage.
It is cheaper for CTV and Global to buy shows from the US then to produce their own shows.
There are numerous threads that say that American channels don't want to come to Canada for various reasons, including the regulations. Not saying all American channels are like that. There are some that tried but can't get approved because they would be the same type of channel that is already in Canada. For example, ESPN.
I contacted Bell to see if they are going to start offering alacarte channels in the western provinces since my local cable company does, got a call back from Bell, said he will bring it up at some meeting. I think it will never happen but who knows. They said CRTC will not allow them to provide alacarte in the western provinces.
Just a reminder that the forum rules do not allow political posts. Several off-topic posts were removed.
Partisan Political and Religious posts are not allowed - Due to the inordinate number of problems we have had with them, overtly partisan political or religious posts will not be allowed. Please see this thread if you have any questions regarding this policy.
I'm always going to the OTA Forums and I discovered a place to let out my frustrations against the Canadian Radio & Television Committee. There are so many ways to mess with that acronym but since this is first post on this forum. All I can say THE CRTC SUCKS!!!
Tonight's co-ordinated hijackings of "Stand Up 2 Cancer" aren't going so well by the Canadian networks. Sure, ABC got hijacked by CITY-TV, CBS by Global, and NBC by CTV, but what about FOX... that's still coming in unmolested. How come FOX didn't get hijacked?
After watching bits of the current hearings one can only be struck by one fact....commissioners watch very little television and really do not get it or relate to the average Canadian consumer. The mandate crap is so outdated that it hurts my ears every time I hear it.......you know the stuff about the Canadian Culture......Canadian multi-culturalisim ....etc Words and phrases that the "upper classes" and the "elites" appearing before the board spout giving orgasmic moments to the commissioners. Every now and then a moment of spirit occurs when a commissioner dares contradict or cross examine one of the big three or four vertically integrated spokespersons. Then quietly smiles and climbs back into he or she turtle shell. Watching this dance of the nymphs is a bit boring but is part of the CRTC culture. (that damn word again) End it all and get rid of the whole group and put in its place a few lessor paid bureaucrats from Industry Canada to issue licences and a Mountie or two for hunting down pesky pornographers. And for good measure stop any increases for five years and limit profits to say 5 percent instead of 25 percent or more. Creative accounting for those not familiar with business terms. Finally keep your filthy hands off the internet.
Not a complaint though, but I find it ironic that Global was airing a Greatest Holiday Commercials special from The CW tonight
Okay, I don't actually get The CW in my lineup, but still, the notion that they were most likely simsubbing a show whose sole purpose is to primarily showcase U.S. ads, is hilarious.
Due to the Canadian TV Czar Rules, They forced to simsubs the greatest CW Ads Event with GlobalTV, The No.1 Network i don't want to support. Go FTA Satellite like it do but make sure it a Big Ugly Dish or if you get a Digital OTA CW Signal from a pre-amp outdoor antenna, use that.
I hate how the CRTC how its has changed their web site. For Today's decisions it was so esay, they listed them, all you had to doi was click the ;link and it took you decesion.. Now the way it set up its totally different and youy have to go Aboce reader to see it even for applications.
STUPID CRTC!! I HATE YOU!! FOR WHAT YOU'VE DONE!!!
Yes I know, but prior to New Years ir was done differently and now once you click on the link it takes you to the decesion but now you have to use Adobe reader when before you didn't.
Oh, you are correct about the PDF version link. I never noticed it before, but all I get is a PDF version of the page you previously seen. When I look at yesterday's decision regarding CJLO radio in Montreal. The decision is on the page.
CRTC Does what parliament tells them to do despite their own policies. In 1983 the Federal Liberals allowed the shutdown of CJCB television in Sydney and CKCW television in Moncton. Since 1983; CTV has raped these two cities of Millions of dollars of LOCAL advertising without airing 1 minute of LOCAL daily programming-a direct violation of a long standing CRTC policy! This STILL continues today!
Who do I make a formal complaint to re. Those stupid television logos sitting in the middle of my screen. Absolutely ridiculius. Animal planet is like almost in the middle.
The CRTC doesn't regulate the placement of logos. Telus has no control what Animal Planet shows on their channel. If you want to complain to anyone, you should complain to the station owner, although it sounds like it's the way it should be for compatibility with centre-cut CRTs. I responded to your original post in the appropriate thread with more detail.
The CRTC needs to lose the reigns. It is absurd that we can't watch USA shows here in Canada. USA has all the best new released, shows, movies and access to the movies. I can't get digital copies of certain movies in Canada to watch online anytime yet the same movie purchased in the USA can be watched digitally online. Disney Anywhere is a prime example.
That's not the CRTC, that's the US owner selling the rights to a Canadian company that doesn't do anything with them. Disney could stream its stuff into Canada if it wanted to.
This is an older thread, you may not receive a response, and could be reviving an old thread. Please consider creating a new thread.
