Default Help a newbie please.

Uhhmm.
I can get to the Pictures and Albums, but then what?
Do I copy and paste individual pics over into the bigger box?

I tried that but, that doesn't work, the most I can paste over is a line of http code!
(that's if I try copying over a pic from the internet)
And, if I try to copy and paste a pic over from a My Pictures folder,
nothing happens- even the drop down menu 'paste' function is
greyed out, telling me I cannot paste a pic over. (left click pic, right click copy, etc then paste, yes I do know how to do that- normally, but that doesn't work on this site for me!)

Where do I get this code text you are referring too?

Thanks for helping a newbie!
Schoolbus
PS- even if I trying hitting the Bold button to highlight text in this message itself, all I get is this stuff! [B] Really!!

Go to the toolbar at the top of this page and click on your "USER CP" and then click on "Pictures and Albums".

After you upload photos, copy/paste either text beginning with "http" or text beginning with "[img]" if you want to embed the actual image into a post.

PS: While you're there, you can enter your location and whatever other info you want to share.

Did you find "Add Album"???? Do that and then "Upload Pictures" within that Album.

Under "HELP" in the top header, under "User Profile Features" you can navigate to the fol. "FAQ" for "Pictures and Albums":
http://www.digitalhome.ca/forum/faq....faq_vb3_albums

BTW: Due to limitations of this forum feature, many of us use separate, and frequently free, image storage websites.

There are several different "BBCode" formats, including posting url's (http or url), images (img) and formatted text (code):

Hello,
Yes I found "Add album", and there is a "title" and "description" box that comes up.
However, I cannot paste anything into that box, my paste function is greyed out....

What is this "upload pictures" function you are referring too? I don't see any buttons or links that say that?
Thanks!

Okay thanks!
Here are my three pics of 2 antennas someone I know is giving away. Does anyone know if they are worth saving? Is the tower worth dismantling?
Thanks! Schoolbus

Yes, definitely, you could always use them for parts to make other antennas. 3/8" tubing is quite pricey.
If that screened parabola is over 5 ft in dia, it could be used for a uhf antenna. If under 5 ft, it would make a very awesome wifi antenna.

Judging by the pic of the top part of the tower, it looks to be a quality tower. Check out the prices of quality towers now, they are quite expensive. It certainly would be worth having even if it required some repairs or beefing up.

Ok, so what is that grey rectangular thing sticking out about half way up the TV antenna tower (first pic).
Did you mean I can use the dish for Wifi internet? I thought it was illegal to tap other peoples wifi, even if unencrypted. But maybe I am wrong.
It is a massive dish, at least 6 feet in diameter. MAybe 8.
The dish also has a slight rip in it that has been repaired, is that ok? what TV stations could I get on UHF with it? Would it be better than one of there SBGH or DBGH(just on UHF?). Could I use it to bring in Satellite TV? It hasn't been use in about 20 years.
Thanks!

The dish can be useful. The tear in the mesh can be repaired. Depending on the actual size of the dish the tear may not have any impact on reception from your location.

Whether it is useful to you personally only you can determine. Although there are various ways of reusing that type of dish, the most common is for C-band television programming. You'll want to read up on C-band and consider a few important questions before you even decide to take it down.

Where in the country are you located?
Do you have a clear view of some portion of the southern sky from your location?
Do you live in a rural area, or in a municipality where the bylaws will allow you to put up a dish of whatever size this dish turns out to be?

Start by checking out the FTA forum on this site, then venture over to the C-band discussion on the satelliteguys.us site. The dish is only the beginning. There is an investment in additional equipment, concrete, steel and time to make these dishes usable.

As a very broad generalization a 6 to 8 foot mesh dish can be made usable for standard definition programming, and may get some HD, from more southerly parts of Canada. An 8 to 10 foot dish is getting more useful to receive more satellites from more locations. 10 to 12 foot dishes will give you the best return in programming selection if you are prepared to invest the time and effort in the setup.

Of course you don't want to tap into someones elses internet unless youre an authorized user. But you can extend the range of your own router with a good wifi antenna. An eight foot diameter parabola is way over kill for wifi use, unless youre trying for the world distance record, heh.

Yes, with an eight foot mesh parabola, you should be able to easily make a 19 dbi uhf antenna with it, with extremely high F/B and F/R ratios, higher than the DBGH's. Of course, it takes up more square footage of sky.

Hard to say from that distance. It could be a wifi antenna setup or a compact local area uhf/vhf TV antenna.

Personally, I would grab everything from there, tower, satellite mounting pole and all, heh.
