^ That's what they were saying a year ago, that they'd have an all-in-one device with 8-channel DOCSIS 3 modem, home networking, DLNA, remote PVR scheduling, in-box games, 6 TB expander, Youtube, apps, yadayadayada... and that most features were "summer 2011", with the remote scheduling "Fall/Winter 2011". Right now, their web site is promising "sometime in 2012" for the wifi/DLNA features, and has no mention of any of the other features.

Default Arris Gateway Demo video

Found this today: http://www.google.ca/url?sa=t&rct=j&...u2Cel-QSZfCV0w

It's not all that detailed but it does show some of the 'features' we could one day enjoy but that will probably be a really long time from now.

I wonder if Shaw will deploy this on the current Gateway system...

I believe we will have that ability with the next code release too. I think it comes with DLNA but don't quote me until it happens!

Honestly I think we'll be just hitting essentially a working V1.0 software load by the time all the other cableco's start rolling out V2.0. So to be frank my expectations are pretty low at this point.

Default Arris integration with NDS Snowflake UI

I found this article very interesting for the future of the Gateway. Seems there could be an entirely new interface coming for the gateway.

http://www.prnewswire.com/news-relea...152240705.html

It also mentions some head-end hardware that may help with deployment of the gateway.

A quick video on the Snowflake 2012 UI that may be coming to the Gateway in the future.

Interesting but I would highly doubt it would ever come to Shaw as they have been working of a 'generic' solution for all platforms they have. That won't be out anytime soon either so I'm no holding my breath. It is nice to see what is being dreamed up though. Will any of us in Canada live long enough to see it; doubtful. Let's hope I'm wrong.

I like the comment in the news post that "We are working closely with several North American cable operators". That would suggest not just the US is included. We can always hope.

The Gateway system is supposedly being picked up by several other Canadian cable operators so they may have a better chance of integrating it with the 'newer' features since Shaw's network architecture challenges won't encumber them. Still, we can always hope but, as always, I'm not holding my breath.

I will take a wild guess, that this demo was done on hardware that far exceeds abilities of today's "gateways" and PVR's. Besides, IMHO, it's very "special effect" heavy for sake of special effects. In this demo I haven't seen anything that "enhances user experience". Frankly, I'm not even sure what kind of functionality is suppose to show. Ability to move video clips in and out of screen?

I know of Two Canadian companies in the industry that Arris has signed deals with but I am not going to name them (not my place to, to be honest). Additionally to those two there is also a rumour that Rogers will be getting it from a reliable souce below.

Quote:
A rumour on the show floor said Rogers is more than interested in deploying the same Arris gateway, and soon, that Shaw has rolled out with its EXO branding – while the big American cable companies are applying heavy pressure to other suppliers to come up with something similar
Interesting!

From the press release: "It can connect with [...] subscriber-owned DLNA®-enabled devices using DTCP-IP encryption across a home network."

I believe that PlayStation 3 is DTCP-IP certified. Not a big deal for me (have enough portals), but potentially an answer for some of the Telus XBox integration.
