Has anyone converted their hotmail account to outlook.com and managed to use it with Windows Live Mail (part of the Windows Live Essentials package for Win 7?) Converted mine, couldn't make it work, converted back and I can't log in with my old old hotmail address (still alive but not as a log-in).

This is using the WLM program, not the web-based version.

Are you sure you switched back your login Id from outlook to hotmail? I thought the only possible switch is to hotmail web mail view, not the id you use as logon, thus entirely reversing everything.
Try deleting your existing WLM account (backing up first) and adding a new live account using your new outlook email as email and login user. I had no problem doing it. |

You can switch back. I switched from a hotmail.com to a outlook.com domain, but had to switch back to a live.ca domain as it won't let me take back the hotmail.com domain (though I still receive mail there as an alias).
I've tried switching the properties on the former hotmail account to reflect the new login but the url server (http://mail.services.live.com/DeltaS....0.0/sync.aspx) won't recoqnize the outlook.com domain or the live.ca domain. I had to create a new live.ca account and can't create an account with outlook.com. |

I just created a new live account using the email address and it worked. All I had to enter was user id (the full outlook email address) and the password. No servers or anything else. Talking about Windows Live Mail for Windows 7.
Make sure you can log on on the web first. |

When I tried to use the @outlook.com address, WLM wanted me to manually enter the server address. My WLM isn't that old as it is on a 2 or 3 month old laptop.

Looks like Window Live Essentials has been superceded by Windows Essentials 2012
