The skipping is back for us too. It seemed to disappear for a while but some really bad ones have shown up lately. The weirdest one was a skip to a later point in the show and then a skip back to an earlier point and continued on normally. All with no touching of the remote and it was recorded show so it would do the same thing again if the show was played back again.
The fact that they need a boatload of fixes this long after release is very sad. I hope there are many visible fixes whenever they finally release the next update. I sure notice a lot of problems. Not a boatload perhaps (how big is the boat?) but too large a number. |

I keep hanging on only because of the people inside Shaw who reached out to me, the same ones that Shaw would dearly love to know the names of. If it weren't for those individuals, I would most likely have given up on the Gateway, and likely Shaw too, a long time ago now.
One thing I feel we are in for is a 'big change' that will come once Shaw has completed both their DNU and the converging of their networks. I just hope we all don't have to wait for this to be fully complete as I understand that could be the end of this year or even into next year before they are fully complete with those projects. Once they have the network capabilities where they should be, it should be like a flood gate opening and the Gateway features should start to flow more freely. At least that's what I'm hoping for; foolishly as it may be, I know. Something that happened to my system the other day is that in the middle of The Mentalist, the picture turned to a plain grey coloured screen while the sound played on normally. This occurred at the end of a commercial break and continued through the remainder of the recording to the end, including at least one more commercial break. We had to go to VOD to finish watching the program and then had to deal with the lack of 'trick' features and pick up the program where we had left off. (read: I got to re-watch the first half of the show while the Mrs. went and did something else until the half hour or so had passed. ) Talk about low WAF. I think I'm losing the hearing in the one ear from all the yelling about how lousy this think is.The problem of the 'next week's preview' being 'double glitched' at the end of most recordings is still there as well and I really hear about that one so it's definitely one I'm hoping they get fixed sooner than later. This one is less problematic for the previews and more of a pain for the sitcoms that have a 'last second gag' to them. Man do I hear about those ones. Adding a minute or two to the recording doesn't solve the problem either. I have heard it probably has something to do with the ad insertion signaling and timing but it could also be related to sim-subbing. In either case, they are both good excuses to leave cable and start downloading everything.

My skips disappeared for a couple of weeks but appeared to be back with a vengeance on some of this weeks shows.
And I had the same thing occur in the Mentalist - taped from the Seattle feed. Grey screen but perfect sound for the last couple of sections. But I wasn't going to do the VOD thing because of the lack of "trick features. Went online and it took less than 5 minutes to download the episode and fast forward to the watching point. At first I did appreciate the fact they had the last couple of episodes of series on VOD but it didn't take long before I decided that if I can't have control of the program while I'm watching, downloading is just to quick and easy to do it their way. I'm just glad I sprung for the Apple TV about this time last year. I did hesitate because I was told DLNA was just a couple of weeks away. Good thing I wasn't holding my breath because you could now call me Papa Smurf if I was. |

Well, now something new has cropped up. I hit the record button during a live broadcast and go off to do something. I then come back, rewind to when I pressed the record button, then I hit play and the show plays.
But then when recorded commercial comes along, I fast forward through commercial. Then when I hit play, the show does not play, the image freezes. I can continue to fast forward right through the show, but when I hit play, the screen always freezes. Etc. How nice. |
