dmittedly, there would be a loss of cardiovascular exercise from the reduction in 'handwaving'
Good point about testing antennas, stand far away as your body acts like a resonator.

Ya Handwaving.

Some basic ideas, theories, copying of other designs, mathematical formulas [or FORUM-ulas haa haa], computer modelling - whatever it takes.

Approximations, assumptions, argumentations.

Collaboration "argumentation", back and forth, like on a FORUM like this.

Experimentation, and builds and trials and testing and errors.

More learning.

Maybe some trial and error.

Then come iterations and possible improvements.

Whether by calculation or by computer simulation.

Sooner or later, you stumble onto something worthwhile and useful.

[ and hopefully you have not killed or injured yourself or someone else in the process, neglected all your other responsibilities, ended up in jail, or bankrupted yourself ]

Explore, search, research, learn, build, experiment. Collaborate.

No snow with my OTA reception, but lots in the back yard.
