Default Bug repellant for patio - non toxic ?

Hey gang

Wondering if there's some sort of safe deterrent.

Wife is pregnant so chemicals are not an option.

Perhaps some sound emitting device but then i worry about the baby inside her possibly being irritated.

Are there any options ? I live in Eastern Canada where pesticides are still encouraged for golf courses so pickings are slim here.

Biting insects are attracted to the carbon dioxide that humans and mammals exhale. There are propane powered biting insect traps that use CO2 for this purpose....

Even using a propane powered lamp may generate enough CO2 to confuse the insects and direct them away from biting humans.

Avoid those bug "zapper" lights: These do not attract biting insects...but they do attract moths and larger insects that consume smaller biting insects, thus making the issue worse.

This one is most likely chemical, but it works awesome: OFF! Lanterns. I used to use a few at a time on my deck, and I could see the bugs in a holding pattern outside the invisible "bubble" around the deck. Like I said, the pad in the top is probably a chemical of some sort... is it safe? I will leave that up to you to check out.
Otherwise, best option is to do what I do now, and get a screen tent setup. No chemicals and NO BUGS! I would wait for a sale at crappy tire... something along these lines [HERE]
