I am not all that happy with the router provided for my HS/TV service, and would like to use my own router. Is there a problem with this, or does the service require that I stay with the Telus router?

What's the issue?
If the wireless doesn't work well for you, you can probably use your router as an access point. If you have the small black cellpipe modem and the dlink, you can put a switch between them and then run the two routers off the switch. You'll only be able to completely replace the dlink if you have a stand-alone modem, run your stbs with ethernet, and your router supports multicast video traffic. While that would work, it wouldn't be supported by TELUS. |

A couple of issues actually. First and foremost, I am trying to reduce the clutter, and number of power units required for the present setup. I have the two boxes, two computers, and an IP printer and will be adding an IP scanner. This requires the use of a switch with the router. I want to get rid of the switch by installing a 7 port router. Also, some of the router options are under Telus control, and I'd rather control it myself.

If you have a standalone modem feeding into a standard router then you should be able to add your own router without issue. You will just need to register the MAC address of your new router at registerdevice.telus.com.
