Question CBS, NBC, ABC and FOX (HD) on Ciel 2 ?

Hi,

I saw this on lyngsat http://www.lyngsat.com/ciel2.html

ABC, CBS, NBC and FOX seems to be free to air (in High Def). Do you know if these channel's will stay free any much longer. ? Because, I don't have an FTA MPEG 4 High Definition to test it.

Thank's

Get a c/ku-band setup, you will get the actual distribution feeds not that mini dish crap.

You would probably only get these channels if you lived in the Denver area; they are spot beamed.

Those channels are unencrypted and have been for some time. Before Ceil 2 was launched they were receivable across most of North America but now they're spot beamed to Denver and surrounding area.

Wonder what would be the purpose to spot beam free tv? Seems wider area would bring in more ability to for advertisments.

Default FTA FOX, ABC & CBS Channels at 77°

FOX, ABC & CBS Channels at 77°.

Jacksonville, FL FOX WAWS and CBS WTEV

Lexington, KY ABC WTVQ

Little Rock, AR FOX KLRT

All of these channels are FTA QPSK MPEG4 HD.
CBS is 1080i and the rest are 720p.

These are excellent channels for out-of-market NFL games.

US stations have market exclusivity. While a particular station would love to have a larger virtual mmarket for advertising, the other stations in those markets have an exclusive right to some programming, and by extension, advertisers.

Spot beams primarily though are to preserve frequencies, in that the one frequency can be used in a number of different places with different signals on them.

Are those on Ku Band? Also are they spot beamed or can they be received throughout North America?

They are Ku and are beamed to the continental US. I'm not sure how far in Canada the beam would reach as this satellite also feeds Mexico. You will need an MPEG4 FTA receiver. I'm surprised they are not encrypted channels.

Thanks for the info. I live just about 90 miles from Seattle so I have good reception on most of the Dish Network stuff, I'll have to see if my motorized dish can receive as far as 77W as that's pretty low in the sky from my location.
