Hi, I am new and curious about FTA. I am making clear that i am not asking for anything illegal on this post. I would like to know how it would be possible to watch Brazilian channels in Star One C2 (70W) from canada? Which kind of equipment should i need? I got some info like that i need a big dish and a linear lnb, but somebody could already get these channels? Thanks!

Not possible at all from here... the beams on South America only...
http://www.lyngsat-maps.com/maps/staronec2_sam.html The VIA signal on Ku is even more tight on Brazil only.. http://www.lyngsat-maps.com/maps/staronec2_brazil.html |

You might want to check lyngsat for FTA programming on North American satellites, there are a lot of foreign FTA signals that do reach us.

There is some FTA Brazillian programming on C-band satellites that you can receive in this area. I don't recall which bird but a guy I work with watches them semi regularly (he's got a 12 foot dish).

So as far as i understood, even if the satellite is available for me from my location, i would need something more than a 90 cm dish to get the signals right? The limitation is the distance of the satellite from Canada right? |

I'm not the type to say what channels are free, you would want to look at INT-805 and Amazonas C-band, not sure if the channels are listed on Lyngsat or not.
You will need a 10' dish.

http://www.lyngsat.com/amazonas.html
You'll get from the amazonas sat: TV Banco do Brasil Rede Bandeirantes Rio Grande do Sul Canal Minas Saúde UNYCA TV Corporativa WooHoo El Trece (Paraguay) Canal WSS and on the intel805 sat looks like there is lots there... http://www.lyngsat.com/intel805.html anything listed in yellow you can get... it's not encrypted. and yes you'll need a big 8 foot dish to pick these channels up in this part of the world... the good news is the beam does cover canada too http://www.lyngsat-maps.com/maps/intel805_hemi.html |

Brazil as in "Portugese" programing.
Theres lots of it available. Please check out the following links: http://lyngsat.com/freetv/Brazil.html (40+ channels beam towards NA) http://lyngsat.com/freetv/Portugal.html (4 channels beam towards NA) http://lyngsat.com/freetv/Angola.html (2 channels beam towards NA) http://lyngsat.com/freetv/Mozambique.html (2 channels beam towards NA) Those were from Portugal & Portugese Colonies. There are also several other channels that also have secondary Portugesse audio channel on them (like EBS & EuroNews) There are only 5 Portugese channels on the Ku Band (RTPi, Sic Noticas, TPAi & 2 TV Pampa). The rest of the Channels are on C Band. Note: Not all of these channels are available across all of North America. Most of them are only for the eastern half of North America. Read ya l8r, Al PS. Ku Band is the 1 meter grey dish. (Not BELL or a STARCHOICE) C Band is a 6 foot + black dish. (it is recommend that you get at 10 foot or larger dish). |

I am the "guy"Mr. Weather was referring to. When I am not working, I am watching Brazilian television, or playing around with my stacked CM 4228s.
There are a few on 55.5 W and 40.5 W. I found them either through lyngsat, or global cm or blindscanning. If you want more info, PM me. |
