AVR speaker selection

I am going to set up a home theatre in the family room: 2 front and 2 rear in-ceiling speakers + center speaker above the TV. I am also thinking of using the same AVR to drive 2 additional in-ceiling speakers in the patio adjacent to the family room.

Is this a valid setup in most mid-range AVRs, say the Denon AVR-789? Obviously, I also want to optionally enable and disable the outdoor speakers: I won't be needing them while watching movies. For background music, I would want to enable the 4 indoor speakers and/or the two outdoor speakers. And is it possible to use all 6 ceiling speakers to listen to music at the same time?
