So, come 2011 Canada is going vhf for OTA, and the US are going uhf (allready) ????? All most sound like a scam to sell more antenna's, now youwill need both to get each other's station's, go figure.

No, that's not the case at all. After the transition both countries will have all their channels operating in the VHF-HI and the UHF bands. VHF-LO TV channels will disappear, as will UHF TV channels 52 through 69.

Ya, Ottawa CIII-PT getting ch 6 is very odd, so its got me wondering if the Post-Transition label in the IC database means U.S. Post-Transition...
Maybe tvlurker would know? |

Of course, Canwest currently has no plans to build it, as according to their submission to the CRTC, they only plan to build one digital transmitter per license, which in the case of Global Ontario is the Toronto transmitter. Of course, as we've discussed elasewhere, they could always apply later to build it. The channel 12 allocation that was their transitional allocation, is a vacant allotment in the post-transitional plan. (Of course, so is channel 4, as are most vacated VHF-low analog channels on both sides of the border.) |

If you check the FCC DB there are plenty of VHF low band , post transitional channels.
Channel 2 and 3, right across the US |

For example in Ottawa, channel 4 is a vacant allotment; in Burlington, VT channel 3 is a vacant allotment, and in Plattsburg (or maybe it's still North Pole, NY), channel 5 is a vacant allotment. This is not true in all cases; for example, channel 8 is not an allotment in Rochester, NY -- but there is a vacant allotment on channel 8 in Toronto, instead. |

High power allotments generally have a nominal EHAAT of 300m, while the low power allotments are lower - I think perhaps 100m. |

Yes, those are slots reserved for all future DTV contingencies by IC as part of their agreement(s) with the FCC. Is that what you meant? Its DTV only.
