Question soundproofing a door: any ideas?

Hey everyone,

In my basement there is a door between my TV room and my tennant's TV room, and it seems a lot of noise comes through the door. I'm wondering what I can do to make it a bit more soundproof.

So far, I've replaced the hollow door with a solid pine door, and put weather stripping around the frame, but I can still hear the TV through the door. Can anyone recommend some good sound proofing for a door, that doesn't look too ugly? Are there any other ways to block the sound from going in a certain direction? Here's how it is laid out.

As a next step I'm thinking about moving my TV as far away from the door as possible. What worries me is that in the future I may install 5.1 so the sound won't be coming from just 1 place. But for now I think I need to block the sound coming through and going out of that door.

Thanks!

This is what I did for our theatre. I made an usher door and glued 2 inch foam on one side then put some vinyl leather on top of it. Not only does it keep the sound from bouncing inside the theatre but it also stops any sound from going through. Might be a solution for you.

Simple solution might be heavy velvet curtains covering the door. JYSK or ikea have pretty heavy ones that would likely block a fair amount of sound.

And did you install a door sweep at the bottom of the door? That will block quite a bit of leaking sound if not

99 bucks at ikea for the curtains. might be an easier sell to my wife then foam on the door.

Yeap and looks a whole lot better!

CHeck out JYSK too as their curtains are cheap and still half decent. I love that store as I like to redecorate regularly

This is the only good pic for now. It might give you an idea. I used screws to do the pinning. I got the materials at fabricland and it cost less than $50. I used contact cement to glue it on.

And sorry, but a curtain doesn't look any better than my door. I made it and I'm proud of it. I guess I won't invite you guys to my theatre...
