Default Doing your Lasik research

Don't believe everything you hear out there, the lasik docs surely won't tell you the whole truth and it may be hard to find it on the net as most sites that come up are those from the lasik companies. Talk to numerous doctors about lasik before you go ahead with it and check out some of the sites with horror stories on them, there are actually quite a few of them out there.

One of the major side effects of lasik is dry eye, dry eye is downplayed by some ophthalmologists. When in fact it can be a disability. I try to keep my eyes closed as much as possible because of the pain. I was told only a small number of patients experience dry eye complications and that it was a relatively minor nuisance, however there is plenty of evidence that shows this crippling side effect to be relatively common. There are studies out there that show 30% to 50% of LASIK patients experience chronic dry eyes persisting beyond one year after surgery. LASIK surgeons quote complication rates of 1 - 3%, they completely dismiss this potentially debilitating complication.
