Default Another Manufacturer Drops Plasma - Vizio

http://gadgetwise.blogs.nytimes.com/...-drops-plasma/

Don't know if these were ever available in Canada.

Their reasoning:

Quote:
Plasma sets simply don’t show as well in big box stores, which are typically lit by bright fluorescent and halogen lights, giving consumers the impression that LCD TVs have a more exciting picture. Also, the company wanted to devote all of its available shelf space to the technology that moves off the shelves fastest.

I thought they bought their Plasma panels from someone else (like Sony always did when they sold plasmas). I wouldn't consider them a plasma manufacturer.

Yeah...and part of the article from "Dailytech" said this too...

"...The news comes days after rumors surfaced indicating Pioneer will also abandon its plasma TV efforts so it can focus on LCDs..."

Funny, my boss at the shop said the same thing today...just speculating since the big "we buy you, you buy us" deal with Sharp a short time ago. makes sense since Sharp is heavy into LCD.

Like I said, we should know more tomorrow!

My local Costco has a couple of models on display, don't remember if they were plasma or not. Also, I think I saw one model at Walmart on the weekend. It was LCD.

I guess I need new glasses. I was at Leon's yesterday and the Plasma TV's looked better than the LCD's Better colour deeper looking blacks.

I was even comparing Plasma's and LCD's from the same manufacturer. The programming was also the same on the TV's as well.

I've waited for the VP505VXT Plasma to arrive here in Canada (saw it down in the States for super cheap @ Costco)...almost bought it actually.

Guess I'll wait until Costco carries that Vizio LED LCDTV ...
