Default -43 degrees C in Edmundston, NB

its been below -40 three nights in a row now. i don't even think any of you manitobans or saskatchewans can match that. anyone from northern NB on these forums? its a balmy -20 here in halifax. i wonder what the record is for the maritimes (or southern canada).

In Edmonton AB it got up to +7 today
Only sharing this because of the closeness of cities names

What kind of reporter forgets to put the minus sign before the temperature when reporting record cold temps?

I can't imagine many homes' heating systems keeping up at -43°.

We just started a heat wave in Brampton. It's -3C and I feel like golfing.

Holy smokes!!! I first thought you might have been talking about wind chill.. Looking at the link 57 provided see that it's the actual temperature.

I just can't picture a place relatively close to the ocean being that cold. The ocean is supposed to moderate things somewhat.

We do get down to -40 every few years here in the prairies. It's not common, but it's not unheard of either.. Fortunately we've only been down to around -36 to -38 here in southern Manitoba. Unfortunately, we've seen a LOT of days where it did get down in the minus thirties.

We're looking at a very balmy -1 for Monday I think it will be the first time it's been warmer than -15 since around the middle of December.

The coldest place in Canada was in La Tuque , Quebec at -44.9. That where my mom lives. I remeber way back when we'd get these -40 and lower for at least a week in a row. I recall my dad trying to make sure that the heat in the house was always there since there were lots of power outages in Quebec at the time. Now living here in Lincoln, besides Fredericton, I appreciate these little -33 since that's nothing for me!

Not really and not even close. For "coldest temperatures in various parts of Canada", see the link below:

-43 air temperature, or wind chill?

If that's air temperature, that's pretty cold.

Regina was -40 on Wednesday night at midnight. -53 with the wind chill. (But it's better to be -53 with the wind chill than to be -53 with calm wind, because all wind chill does is cool stuff off to the ambient air temperature faster.)

The historical record in Regina is about -50.

There was a town in extreme southeast Manitoba that was -44 early this week. Pretty wicked.

-40c or -44c really isn't that bad if you dress for it. Where I live we get -35c to -44c for about 4 to 6 weeks straight every winter. It doesn't really matter what the temp is outside when it's 20c inside. Most folks only walk 20 to 30 feet to thier car if it's not in thier garage. I walk to work all winter (about 3 blocks) and don't even get cold. You just have to dress for it. It's not really a big deal unless to live outside or in a dumpster.
And I'm talking real temps not windchill.

I go with what Chris Sinclair from the Weather Network said on Saturday. I guess he was referring as the coldest spot for that day. I mean look at NWT with a +10 right now....unbelievable.
