Hi
Interested in what you guys think... Haven't had a phone account in my name for 8 years. Account is in my wife's name, although the company does have my name so I can call about the account as a secondary contact. At work last week, a coworker was telling me about how canada411.ca has changed and now shows a map of where you live. I commented that, as far as I know, my name has never been on the site as I don't have a phone in my name. I used to check every once in a while and never showed up. Of course, he looks and there I am. I send an email to canada411.ca, (no contact number available on the site), stating that since I don't have a phone in my name, why is my name and information on your site and please remove it. I didn't hear anything for about a week and then I get a message for my wife from the phone provider (not canada411.ca) to discuss the issues with the "directory listing". I call the number back and explain the issue to the agent. I am told that if I want the listing removed from canada411.ca, I must pay $2 a month for an unlisted number. I attempt to explain that "I" don't have a phone number and it states on the canada411.ca site that to have information removed you just have to request it from your provider and it will be removed with 2 days. Didn't matter to the agent. 2 bucks a month or have a nice day. Two supervisors later, same story. All three either missed the point or their call centre script would not allow them to think for themselves. I "don't" have an account with your company, so why should I pay you 2 bucks. BTW, no one ever offered to change the information to my wife's, the actual customer. (who has no information displayed on canada411.ca) A catch 22? What am I missing here? Thanks |

Maybe escallate it with your wife's phone provider, and ask them about their privacy policy? And then ask if they would like you to go to the local media; like the local "consumer beat" person.

Has anyone actually checked what 411 listing your provider actually has for your account? If you previously had service under your name and they just changed the name on the account, there is always the possibility they didn't update your listing. What does your call display name show up as, your name or your wife's? Depending on the policies, they usually like the two to match.
Canada411 is just displaying whatever information that was sent to them by the service provider. It's possible your that everyone is missing the most obvious solution (correcting the listing) and instead focusing on the wrong thing (customer who doesn't want to be listed). If your provider does have the correct listing, I would get them to follow up with whomever they send the listings, to fix the name. |

ken0042 is right.
Canada411.ca only publishes what is provided to it by the phone company. If you contact you're wife's provider, I bet the listing is under your name and the account is under her name. Nem, who's seen this kind of thing before
