Default A comparision of bandwidth

I was reading through the comcast thread at another forum and the discussion move to the point of sattelite bandwidth because Comcast systems rely on sattelite to receive the bulk of the channels.

dr1394 has calculated that 40.46 Mbps per transponder for HD channels with 1 transponder typically carrying 3 HD channels which works out to about an average 13.48 Mbps per channel, so I wonder what the bitrate was for Canadian systems?

Symbol rate * Modulation system(if QPSK this is 2, 8PSK its 3) * FEC * Reed Solomon(188/204).

Starchoice/Shaw Broadcast Service/Shaw Cable
37.7 Mbps usually with 3 channels per transponder. (12.6 Mbps/channel avg)

Bell
30.7 Mbps usually with 2-3 channels per transponder. (10.2-15.3 Mbps/channel avg)
