I'm getting a bit annoyed by the grey bars on my 16x9 screen when viewing 1:2.35 movies. I've decided to build a mask system for top and bottom. I already have my velvet and I'm considering difference designs for the masks.
I was hoping for something that could simply flip up or down when needed, but I'm having trouble designing it. I'll likely settle for two wide strips wrapped in velvet with an "easy" to hang design. Still in the early stages. Any ideas out there? |

The Carada screens have a masking type - you might want to take a look.

The bars should be black, not grey. Perhaps a proper calibration of your FP is in order? I understand that the blackest anything can get with a FP is how black the screen looks depending on the light level in the room. Perhaps you can reduce the light level in the room a bit more? Or look at reducing the black level (brightness) setting in the FP?

I guess I shouldn't call the bars on top and bottom grey - they lighter than the border of the screen which is very black, and darker than the projected image - so they are visible.
I can make the room pitch black, but with reflect light, etc. the borders are still visible. |
