Have any of you guys tried these two receivers? Can you please comment on the audio quality of these two? Durability? Features? Customer care? Is there any Sherwood dealer in Toronto area where I can try their receivers? Which one should I choose for PolkAudio speakers?

Marantz, it's not even a contest. It also does audio through HDMI, the SN doesn't even have HDMI.

The 771 is an older model while the 4002 is a more recent release hence the reason why the Marantz had HDMI. The Sherwood/Newcastle (S/N) 672 and 772 are the newer models as well as the upcoming 872 and 972. From what I understand Marantz is actually built by Sherwood as they are an OEM for many of the names you may be more familiar with including Denon. I listened to the Marantz along with many other brands before I made my decision and that is to wait for the 872. Make no mistake, the Marantz is a great sounding unit but the Sherwood's I've listened to won me over. I'm currently using and older Sherwood 863 with Wharfedale Diamonds till my 872 comes in and I am very happy with it's sound and it's about five years old.

I have heard the 672 and 863 from S/N as well as the Marantz 4002 and 6001. I actually really liked the Marantz, even more so than the Pioneer Elite 84. The Denon's didn't really compare as they sounded too bright. The Marantz and S/N actually sound similar and I think I'd be happy as well with a newer Marantz. Both brands have a warmer or at least more neutral sound but I felt there was a bit more fidelity or fullness to the S/N. I currently have the 872 on order (impatiently waiting) but may upgrade to the 972 when (ever?) it comes out. I do not know of any S/N dealers in GTA as I am in Vancouver where the only dealer is Digital Smart Homes on Richards and Pacific in Yaletown.

I pulled my trigger on Marantz SR4002 yesterday. I barely hooked it up.... and it sounds soooo good.... a lot better than my 12 yrs old Marantz amp.....Now I need a centre channel. I'll update the post once I hook it up properly and know all the functionality of the receiver.

Hi all,
I had the sr4002 for 2 weeks now, watched a few movies, played my 360 on it,listened to cd's,and watched concert dvd's on it.I was not impressed at all on it's sound. It's good yes,but I have a 3 year old Yamaha HTR5640 6.1 that sounds every bit as good,in fact the Yamaha has settings that the Marantz doesn;t even get into, like concert hall, jazz club, rock concert....etc..If you watch DVD concerts it would make alot better listening experience if it sounds like your really there and not just listening to a cd.That'ds what home theater ia all about, isn't it?The picture quality was another issue when passed through the receiver, not nearly as good as when the dvd player was connected directly to the plasma tv.Anyway I returned it a week ago for a full refund.
