Cool Calgary, Edmonton: HD OTA Coming Soon from Global

From Global's web site:
Quote:
we expect to have an over the air HD transmitter up and running for CHCH Hamilton, Global Ontario and Global BC by the end of April. After they are set up and running, Calgary and Edmonton will follow for an HD transmitter
So, since we know that Global's digital transition work has already begun in Hamilton, Toronto, and Vancouver, folks in Alberta's biggest cities can expect to see Digital OTA come to their cities some time after that.

Get phoning, faxing, and emailing CBC and CTV to match them!

Is it really needed? Since pretty well everything is available from the US Networks but I guess Global wants the simsubs....

Based on the number of people complaining in other forums about Simsubbing, I'm surprised people are looking forward to this. Personally, the longer we can avoid Simsubbing, the better...especially from Global. Not looking forward to this.

jaazzman, a recurring theme here in this forum over the years is that when people see the PQ of OTA HD their anger at simsubs often takes a back seat. Personally I dislike the concept of simsubbing, but I don't watch commercials of any type if I can help it.

I understand why many people dislike simsubbing.

Pragmatically, simsubbing is not going away, especially due to Global's imminent OTA DTV cutover, so I think some people are just learning to live with it with the knowledge that they will be getting free HD service with superior PQ to their satellite or cable HD feeds. Its a bit of a tradeoff, you see.

It may not be your cup of tea, but sometimes you have to assess whether bad news has any silver linings. For most people a situation like this does.

Default New to OTA?

As new Digital OTA stations have come up across Canada and in U.S. border areas over the years there has been a rather steep learning curve for people in those new areas to get informed about OTA. Here we are to the rescue!

I highly encourage all of you in the Calgary and Edmonton areas who are new to the OTA Forum to follow these links:

Default Two New Alberta Threads

I've set up two new threads in the OTA Forum Reception Results sub-forum for discussing the upcoming OTA DTV transition in Alberta:

AB - Calgary and Southern Alberta - OTA

AB - Edmonton, Central Alberta, Northern Alberta - OTA

Now that we know about Global's OTA DTV plans for Calgary and Edmonton, it sure would be nice if DHCers would post any & all responses they get from CBC and CTV about OTA DTV plans of their own networks/stations.
