Inside information effecting numerous mulit-billion dollar corporations that are publically traded.

Why do you think inside sources are never named?

I'm pretty sure there is zero chance of going to jail for insider info when you're not in fact employed by that company, and aren't trading its shares.

Wrong on point one. Ask Martha.

You can't go to jail for inside trading if you're not trading.

If a industry insider releases information than they can easily be fired and/or sent to prison especially if stocks were traded with this info.

I work for a multi-billion corporation with inside knowledge of many other companies. If I release this info (info that I know will influence the stock price) than I'm toast, if caught.

Hey james,

In that case do you have any good inside info on Toshiba or Sony? I promise I won't tell a soul.

Right. However, you said Bill would risk prison. He wouldn't. The person the insider told that information to would not be going to prison, just the person who was the insider (unless of course Bill acted on that information and bought/sold shares etc).

Maybe Bill could write some columns about the insiders experience in the slammer?

I believe I said something like "run the risk". I would have to re-check my statement.

Perhaps I wasn't clear. I believe Gord said that he(Bill) knew about the WB deal before it was announced. If he (or anybody else who had that info) used the info to buy/sell shares (in Toshiba, Sony, WB, etc.) and got caught than he would "run the risk".

If an insider simply emailed him (unsolicated) than that would be fine. If Hunt solicated info than and didn't use it than that would be a bit of a grey area, I guess.

There is absolutely no risk of him going to prison.

You misunderstood me. Martha was convicted because she traded stocks with the info, which isn't what I was talking about.
