Is there a sidecar for the DCT 2000 and what is it? Will Any company ever do this? I would really not have to upgrade to a new box if I don't have to

The sidecar for the DCT2000 is the same one Star Choice used to use before they launched the DSR500 (or whatever it's called).

The HDD-200 is the sidecar high-definition decoder which was intially designed for cable but adapted for Starchoice and 4DTV as well.

It all depends on your cable company. The sidecar is a passive decoder, it can not be addressed by the cable headend and neither can it report back. If the cable company is supporting the sidecar then they will enable the digital cable box to output the HD channels to the sidecar. Otherwise it is a no go.

i remember way back when shaw talked about the sidecar as the way for dct2000 users to upgrade to HD...that was their reply in emails sent back when the 5100 wasn't released yet. When the 5100 got released they switched their minds and said the sidecar was not going to be supported and that the 5100 was the only way.

It doesn't work with Shaw I can confirm that for sure. I tried it out a few months back and while the box would work as soon as you went to an HD channel a message would pop up saying you need a Motorola 5100 box, contact Shaw. It also was a PITA because if you set it to 1080i it would scale to that (great) but it wouldn't stretch 4x3 material and my Toshiba 50HDX82 would lock the signal in so I'd have to use the less effective TheaterWide modes to stretch the display out.

Ok, for anybody using the Motorola DCT-2000/2500 terminals with an HDD-200 decoder which they may have used with Star Choice can rest assured that the box is entirely compatible.

I have a DCT-2500 w/ a HDD-200 I used with Star Choice. I contacted Rogers who asked me where I got the decoder from. I said I bought it from a Motorola reseller, they seemed fine with that. I gave them the Serial# and Part# from the decoder. The CSR e-mailed this off to the tech department; they were going to verify if it was compatible.

Later that day I returned home to find that the HD channels were authorized and working perfectly.

This setup WILL work...at least with Rogers (New Brunswick). I don't see why it wouldn't work with Shaw.

Default HDD 200

If someone in winnipeg wants to try the HDD 200 on their DCT 2000 try it now, the HDTV channels have been unlocked for two days, you cannot see the pictures but you can hear the audio, so hook up a HDD 200 and try to see if you can get the video.

If anyone trys this could you please let me know

The two HDTV channels are 130 and 137
