I had a Tarayon for several years without problems until yesterday when it totally failed. I returned it to Rogers for a replacement and was told that Tarayons are being taken out of service and I was given a Motorola SB51000 series.
While on this subject, I have a choice of Ethernet or USB connection; I chose the latter. Is this correct ? Thanks.

You can use the USB connection but most ISPs will tell you to use the Ethernet connection as a first choice. Whatever you choose don't connect both cables.

Default Motorola SB5120 from South Carolina O.K. :-)

The SB5120 I got on Ebay for $CAN. 47.14 including shipping works just fine. I saved enough money to pay for one month's internet service by NOT buying the modem from Rogers.

I've just got a letter from Rogers and asked me to upgrade to a new cable modem without charge. Anyone receive this letter out there?? I'm using a Terayon modem for the past two years and have no problem with it. The speed is reasonable since I'm not download/upload that much, mostly just surfing the net. Is it worth to upgrade it to a DOCSIS (that's what the letter states) modem??
Cheers
Stephen

The Terayon's are old, and have some issues with some newer network protocols when on high-speed lite. I'd swap it out. Can't hurt.

Rogers is just trying to get rid of the old modems. Nothing nefarious behind it.

Thanks. Will try to exchange it on the weekend.

Got the letter yesterday.

Will go and change it out sometime this week.

Hopefully I'll get a Motorola modem.

Anyone have experience with the SA DOCSIS modems?

My local Rogers Video outlet only has the SA DOCSIS modems. I've read some posts on here from a couple years back that seemed to indicate that the SA modems were crap.

Is that still the case?

I'll do some digging around to see if I can get a Motorola modem, but I may be stuck with an SA modem.
