You lost me... how is it easier for me to spend just over $700 at once (assuming I purchased a PS3 at the orginal price than spreading it out in two purchases over 4 months as I did with my 360 and addon?

I already said it was easier on my wallet with two purchases... and I'm not the only one from what I've seen in my travel. Not everyone can justify over $700 in a single shot for a gaming system no matter what extras come with it. Hell, I still run into people who think I'm nuts for spending $450 plus tax on my 360.

To add... I bought my 360 in Sept 2006 and enjoyed it just for game for 2 months before I picked up the addon. So, at that point for me to start enjoying HD disk movies, I could fork over $199 plus tax for the addon, or buy a whole new machine in the PS3 for $659 plus tax... the choice seemed pretty obvious at the time especially considering the lack of games for the PS.

I absololutely agree. When I purchased my 360, my funds weren't so abundant as they were when I purchased my PS3. (A year later.) It was just easier for me to purchase the 360 and upgrade it later. It was much easier to spend the $ over a longer period than $700 all at once.

I stand corrected based on both your examples. However, a person looking at it the other way could say: I would like a PS3. If I go out and buy the 360 base system, I'll spend $450 but I think I'll really want the add-on (which I'll probably end up buying almost right after like this PrimeBane guy on DHC ).So I could wait 2 months and buy the whole thing at once.... or choose the PS3 if I really want that particular system.

It seems like rationalizing it in this way doesn't make it sound like price is "as much" of an issue. That't been my point from the beginning: lack of games is a bigger factor IMHO.

I think a part of it is psychological. Spending 450 up front vs 700 is a big difference, even if I will add on later. I bought an extra remote and component cables and 3 games within two weeks of getting the wii, but i still only see the system as costing me $279

Okay, so perhaps it's more the upfront price than the entire price.

I'd take home a PS3 in a second if they let me have it for $450 now and an additional $200 in 2 months. But that's more for BD play back than games at this point.

I don't know the answers...just asking.
I launched a program on my Mac and had access to everything on the PS3. It shows all my iTunes playlists, my songs, my photo albums from iPhoto, everything. It couldn't be any easier.

I think another important point to consider is the format war. The 360 (with addon) supports hd dvd, the ps3: blu ray. Personally I don't want to spend money on one of the systems untill I know one of the format's will win. I think this type of reasoning is effecting the ps3 sales more than teh 360 (since you can buy the 360 without the hd player, but with the ps3 you have to spend the extra money upfront for their mega system).

I don't think the PS3 will see a demise though for a few reasons.
1: The PS3 is basically a computer. You can plug a wireless keyboard/mouse in it, and browse linux/the web, etc etc while sitting on your couch etc.
2: Why spend $1000 on a pc when you can buy a game for the ps3 and use a mouse and keyboard as the controls. IT's especially cool if you own a big HD Tv
3:The PS3 upscales DVD's to 1080p, if you bought an upconverting dvd player that could do this, it'd cost you at least $150 (if you're content with 1080i, then you could get it as cheap ast $50)
4. It upscales ps2 and ps1 games, I'm not sure how good this actually looks though, the images on the net weren't impresseve

Finnally: Sure the PS3 may have lost some exclusive games, but the bottom line is this: they will still have those games, sure they'll come out on both systems, but that is better than them completely going to the 360.

The fact that Blockbuster will be carrying more Blu-Ray movies will probably help some people decide whether or not to buy a Blu-Ray player/PS3.

It would be very convenient to rent a Blu-Ray movie and a PS3 game at the same place.

This will help shift the format war and increase PS3 sales for some.

Nah, the numbers are too small and the PS3 is still too damned expensive.
