If we could just get a straight answer from somebody at Star Choice, we could stop the speculation and conjecture, however the chances of that are slim to none.

Why do big companies do this?

I agree with Bent.
The PVR is down the list and in reality is not a big influence in the marketplace at this time.
No doubt a few are going to BEV who want the PVR now but those numbers are small.
Would be curious to know how many PVR's has BEV sold to date ?\
5% of new subs maybe ?
That would be a good wake up call for SC if the number's were high.
But I doubt it.

I agree as well. A PVR is a neat toy and I'd really like to have one for Star Choice, but it is honestly out of the price range of the average subscriber. As an example, my father is totally content with his 421b and 401 receivers. He could definitely see the usefulness of a PVR, but I know he wouldn't spend $600 or $700 to get one.

I work for RadioShack and we have been told to get rid of the 401 recievers to make room for the 405 reciever. It is to be avalible this summer but knowing SC id be happy to see it by november(im still waiting for them to get highspeed internet). It will have two tuner(picture in picture) which will allow you to watch one show while you record another. it will come with dolby digital out and a UHF remote. It will not be able to record HDTV but since the 401 is discontinued the new 405 will have to be compatible with the HD decoder.

Just for clarification to those reading along, the 405 is NOT a PVR.

The 405 is a replacement for the 401. MrVH from http://www.virtualhelp.ca provided detailed information about the 405 a long time ago. Do you honestly think the Star Choice PVR is going to sell for $250 (like it's listed on the abovementioned website)?

If you look through this forum, you would see JohnnyG has already disclosed what this unit is.
And Mopar, he is a retailler, so I would think he's not getting incorrect info from his rep is he?

well it looks like you guys are right. I'll talk to starchoice tommorow and find out what the pvr will be called. The did tell me the pvr would be avalible early summer i just figured it would be called the 405. I really don't care about having optical digital out. Im using the coaxial out and it works great. I hope the 405 will be beter then the 401. when the 305 came out are warrantys doubled right away. The 301 was a beter reciver then the 305 in my veiw(based on my customers complantes).
