I assume you have .TS files, right?
I haven't found a driver to run them in Media player yet, but I have used PowerDVD 6 to play an HDTV .TS file before. Unfortunately, my PC isn't powerful enough to run it without skipping frames. |

Seems like the DCT -> PC recording via firewire was conquered last year, but has anyone heard any news on any software that could convert that stream to make your computer think it was from a TV tuner card? I mean, connecting the DCT to a Windows Media Center enabled PC, and having Media Center play/record/pause the stream would absolutely rock. I would think the biggest benefit is that it keeps it digital the whole way - instead of buying a TV tuner card, and connecting the cable terminal to the card via some sort of analog connection (either S-video or even Component).
I haven't been able to find any software that will map a firewire video stream to TV tuner. I do, and have used frequently, some software that converts a firewire stream to webcam format - it tricks the system into thinking the stream is coming from a regular webcam, so any application can use it as such. There is probably a whole lot more in regards to a TV tuner card.. does it keep track of multiple streams? I'll stop the newbie talk and let someone else pipe in. |

Sorry for the aside, but which software is it that will allow firewire to be interpreted as any webcam
Thanx Jeff |

Thanks for the link - this software may well be helpful to me for watching material via firewirefrom a camcorder
With regard to the actual thread topic, I believe the software won't help What is coming down firewire from the 6200 is MPEG2 format, and far more detailed (1920x1080i) THe firewire from a camcorder is DV format (a relatively non-compressed avi. type format) and is 720x480 I believe the bit rates of the 2 formats are relatively similar So I would be surprised if the software worked - altho this is software like Vlan that allows HD streams to be seen "live" Jeff |

Just got a DCT6200 (Shaw Winnipeg). When I turn it on the DVI works for about 2 seconds and then blanks out. Composite is working just fine. Tried it with a Dell W3000 LCD TV and a Samsung SyncMaster 910T monitor with same results.
Any ideas? |

You are the victim of HDCP, the copy protection mechanism in (protected) DVI streams
Typically computer monitors dont support this, so that is why your Syncmaster wont work Unfortunately and bizarrely Dell did not make the LCD TV compliant with HDCP either - very sad treatment of customers as it means those of you with cable STB boxes cant use the DVI connection - all HD cable STB boxes obey HDCP Those of us with Expressvu have it better as they dont incorporate HDCP protection This omission also means you cant connect a higher end DVD player by DVI See this thread where the sad reality of how you have been misled by Dell dawns on on the participants, particularly 2 and 3 pages http://forums.us.dell.com/supportfor...cending&page=1 The 6200 looks for a DHCP signal back, and turns DVI off if it doesnt get it Last edited by Jeffnoone; 2005-05-11 at 01:27 AM. |

Is the DCT6200 still worth buying? Are there any HD channels with the 5C protection that will prevent me from recording the shows to my computer?

Any chance of getting a link to the 6200 firewire drivers (again). It looks like it was some time ago that this was posted. Hopefully someone still has these. Thanks.
