It seems every week I end up watching a Gene Tierney movie. I really liked Leave Her to Heaven. I usually pick up these Fox Classics for $10 so I might want to check out Wally Mart to see what they have. I still need a dozen or so titles, perhaps more. I believe the whole series is 75 titles.

LOL -- I was thinking the same thing. And we'll see her yet again in the noir wave in December.

Picked up 8 of these today from Wally Mart. Good price. Now I need to make a list to figure out which ones I still need. I believe 2 more are out this Tuesday.

It'll be good to have some more Warner flavoured noir on the shelf again -- can't say I'm all that impressed by what Fox is releasing lately. Best news of all, Universal is set to unleash the mighty Double Indemnity, just a month away:

Volume 3 comments from USA Today:

Film Noir Classic Collection, Vol. 3

* * * 1/2, 1946-52, Warner, unrated, $50

Three RKOs and two MGMs equal another Warner box of noir at its best. Too bad the titles aren't available individually. Even the most modest entry — director Anthony Mann's 1949 Border Incident— is competent and topical with its subject of illegal immigration.

Back story: My favorite is Nicholas Ray's artfully schizoid On Dangerous Ground (1952). Bernard Herrmann's great score punches up a brutal urban crime pic suddenly turned tender romance between a tough cop (Robert Ryan) and a blind woman (Ida Lupino). I'll talk about the set's three other films in Tuesday's DVD Watch column. They are Lady in the Lake (1946), His Kind of Woman (1951) and The Racket (also 1951).

Extras, extras: Each disc has commentary by a noir historian, and the set includes documentary Bringing Darkness to Light.

Not sure for how much longer, but Fox Film Noir titles are currently on sale at Amazon.com for $7.97. (also Fox Studio Classics)
