Hi, I am a newbie to the Big screen world and I am looking for some help in deciding which one of these models is the best choice for me. Mainly I watch hockey on TV (seems like most of it is in non HD) and some DVD movies. I also enjoy gaming (XBox for now perhaps 360 soon).
The 810 will supposedly give a clearer picture as it has a better lens system? But it is going for about $400 more here in Ottawa now. Will either set be better for eliminating the ghosting effect that I have heard of and have seen a back in the day when there is fast moving action on the screen (hockey?). Or was that ghosting only an issue for the first gen of LCD rear projection tvs? I have heard that the 50v525 is the 50v500 in black with a HDMI interface added and that is it. The guys at a local store were telling me that I should go for the 810 as on the 50v500 (and as a result of the negligable changes the 50v525 as well) non HD hockey looks like crap -can anyone confirm if this is true? They sales person claimed that they could not watch it on the 50v500/525 but on the 810 it was not an issue. Unfortunately I have not been able to get any non highdef hockey to watch in any of these stores to compare for myself. Also what is the realistic lifespan of an rear projection LCD set? It would really suck to drop 4k on one of these only to have the pixels fade or something equivalently bad happen in 5-6 years. Anyone have recommendations on where to buy in Ottawa? |

What kind of belief can you put into a sales guy how says, "dont buy model x because hockey will look like crap"? What does that mean? Did they give you a real reason?
I would think either tv would be fine. Go with your budget and what you like. The picture will be similar in all three models and all three models probably have their own individual minor faults. I have seen the 810 and 500 series and think they both look great. I like the all black exterior better than the silver of the 500. I think the 810 comes with 2 HDMI ports and the others will only have one (not 100% on this). |

The VS810 is now a discontinued model. Soon to be replaced by the VS825 next month. The VS810 technically is a superior model to the 525 only that it has a 2 stage focusing lens system vs 1. I could not tell a big difference. I myself own the Hitachi 60V525 and I love it. I have watched sports with this set and there is absolutely no probs and no ghosting. The screensaver on the VS810 drove me batty and would have been a bad choice in my bright bonus room. There was a lot of ambient glare even from the store. You will find that the salesmen will push the VS810 since the set is discontinued and they would probably get a big spiff for selling it. I looked at many different sets and you will not go wrong with the 525. I love it and would recommend it highly.
