Exactly. Price increases always...new channels not much...Shaw is kind of getting behind the other carriers...they need to get moving or face losing more business to Optik.

Optik isn't much better. They have a few more channels but lack a best of HD package, so if you want all the HD channels you need to subscribe to a bunch of mini packs which makes the Telus bill more expensive than Shaw.

Shaw doesn't really need to get moving.. the competition isn't the great.

Additional Note: It would seem the legacy products are having there prices raises more than the newer ones. I've been on my triple play bundle since August 2011. bb50/personal tv/basic phone... I added best of hd just before they jacked up the price on it. I've had one $5 increase since that time (which was an increase in the bb50/personal tv portion). I guess I'm probably due. I guess my point was if shaw is continually raising the price on legacy products, there probably trying to get people to ditch them.

Travel+Escape is on free preview until March 31. W Movies was on free preview last month, so if you still get it, it could just be a delay in turning off the preview.

Some posts were moved here from the free preview thread since they were discussing availability, tiers, etc.

I am in the shaw Hamilton area. I checked my account online and noticed that my bill is going up $16.00+ taxes as of April 1 2013. I could not get answer on why the increase and what it is for!
Anyone else have this large price increase in the Hamilton area?
I am a little pissed"

ryan1: what packages do you subscribe too? Not that I can help but I'd be curious as to possibly what services shaw is raising fees on?

Ryan1,

Were you on a grandfathered rate and change your package?

it would sure be nice to get some information from Shaw as to what the increases are for April and what services they apply to. Why is Shaw so secretive? Last year my internet and home phone from Telus were both subject to small increases and Telus gave clear notification on their website at least 4 months in advance. Shaw only tells you when you get the bill. Any Shaw employees care to comment as to why the big secret!

Most of the price increases seem directed at the legacy (old) offerings. On the previous page someone noted an increase in HD Plus. If you go back further it seems the people stuck with constant price increases are on the old packages?

Yes, I have heard others remark that Shaw appears to be coaxing customers away from the old legacy packs. Another thing that I hear is being subject to constant increases is the internet packages. Fortunately I have Telus for internet. I pay $37 for 6meg download and the cheapest plan Shaw has on their website is $50 for 10mg download. A little faster yes , but not worth another $156 a year.

Hey folks, I would be happy to help out with any billing questions including if you notice you are subject to an increase on your bill. Any Shaw rep should be able to help too. Feel free to send me a PM if you want.

My goal here is to give extra clarity and transparency so I will do my best to accomplish that so you at least have a better idea of where you stand. I can assure you there is no secrecy.

Some customers are affected by an increase effective April 1st 2013. Customers will begin to see notification on their bills since Feb 1st 2013.

The majority of the April 2013 rate changes will affect customers with grandfathered packages. There are some areas that will see unique rate changes such as Hamilton, Saskatchewan and certain regions within central BC.
