Nothing in life is certain and most certainly not the footprint of the next Shaw direct Bird.
My understanding, is that it will NOT have the same coverage of the existing one, but just how dramatic a reduction, south of the borer, no-one will know until much closer to launch. I think there might be a projected footprint map somewhere, just can't seem to locate it now. Anyway, suggest checking the thread given by 57 before making an investment in all new hardware. |

Several posts moved to this SD thread. G1 is the new satellite and no one knows what channels will be on that sat or if any existing channels will be moved to that sat. Therefore, as stated previously, there are no guarantees about what you'll be able to get if you're outside the G1 footprint (link in post 1)
Just sayin' - go in with your eyes open.

Actually Pinza satellite footprints are very certain very far in advance! Of cours you won't be able to get anything outside the footprint we know that the only thing we (non-Shaw people) dont know is what channels Shaw will put on it. here's the link

One has to also remember that Shaw places channels on satellites in the following order:
A) Needs of Shaw Cable head ends B) Needs of Shaw Broadcast C) Needs of Shaw Media D) Needs of Corus E) Desires of SD DTH customers Shaw Broadcast can't transport Shaw Media/Corus/Bell Media services outside Canada so expect these HD signals to be on G1 |

Shaw Broadcast runs the uplinks and authorization of cable provider receivers for most of the channels in Canada that are carried on cable BDUs.
Shaw Direct is an arm of that which sells to home subscribers, most of the Shaw Broadcast feeds (All the ones on Ku, none of the C-band feeds) and cable channels that uplink themselves (mostly Bell Media, from CFTO and CHUM TV facilities), and uplinks channels exclusively for home users. |

First of all, what exactly does this mean?
"Shaw Broadcast can't transport Shaw Media/Corus/Bell Media services outside Canada so expect these HD signals to be on G1" Specifically, what channels are you talking about and what is your source for this comment? Shaw satellite signals, and Bell's too, have for many years been "transported" outside Canada and continue to be, as they are not stopped at the border as people are. Secondly, in regard to this comment: "Shaw Broadcast runs the uplinks and authorization of cable provider receivers for most of the channels in Canada that are carried on cable BDUs. Shaw Direct is an arm of that which sells to home subscribers, most of the Shaw Broadcast feeds (All the ones on Ku, none of the C-band feeds) and cable channels that uplink themselves (mostly Bell Media, from CFTO and CHUM TV facilities), and uplinks channels exclusively for home users." If this is an explanation that someone who doesn't already know is supposed to understand, then obviously I REALLY don't understand. I, for one, would appreciate an explanation of this statement that even dummies like me could understand. Thirdly, Bent But, can you provide a link that gives the information about "Telesat Projected Replacement Dates"? |

Legally speaking, the channels owned by those media companies are licensed only for Canada, and the market rights for content is only bought for Canada, and it is a violation of the rights off foreign rightsholders to sell in their markets.
Using a controlled beam helps protect that. As for Shaw Direct vs Shaw Broadcast, a simpler way of saying it is Shaw Broadcast commercially distributes specialty channels to cable providers over the Anik satellites, and Shaw Direct sells access to most of those same feeds to home viewers as a DTH service. |

that being said....the current footprint for Shaw Direct covers most of the U.S. and part of Mexico. Have there been complaints from U.S. providers that the evil Canadian scourge is robbing them of viewers and advertising dollars? It's been this way for over 10 years (as far as Shaw goes). Is G1 supposed to end that coverage to support American providers?

Hi folks,
I am a "Southern Canadian" and coming back to Shaw Direct after a couple of years ago and I have been having some problems acquiring the signal in my reinstall. I am using a legacy receiver (315) and a the same 75 cm dish and lnb from Shaw I had a couple of years ago. Anyhow, I get to the satellite tuning screen and I keep getting "search for correct signal" on the main screen. However, I am pretty sure that I am on (or close) to the birds and I am getting a green bar and a signal of 80 or so. Is there another satellite close to the ones I am trying to acquire? My receiver has not been reauthorized yet, which I assume cannot happen until I acquire the dish, correct? I used a satellite finder to get the correct numbers, and I am using a tripod with a level reading on it, so the dish is level. Sorry about the rambling but any ideas would be appreciated. PS, I have tried to acquire the signal from both ch 299 and 284 (read that with legacy receivers, it may make a difference). |

At one point ( I think around the 205/305/405), that they came with basic Shaw maps in the factory condition, where 299 would at least get signal. Before, a reset receiver had to be set to be set to channel 284 to acquire signal.
Once you get signal, you enter 4128 on the remote, and it compares with the code on satellite. If it matches it will go green. |

Are you using the X-Ku LNB? Maybe your receivers have been firmware updated to that LNB. What you'll find, is when you use the older Ku band LNB's and had the firmware updated, you lose the 107.1 satellite programming.
