Question You Tube Issue?

Is anyone elser having issues with You Tube load on to your computer?
When I try and go to You Tube it takes some time loading. And when it does and I "Click" on a video to watch it loads , but the video starts but pause a second or two then starts over. The little bar(green slashes at bottom of computer) they seem to be the issue?

I go to other sites including this on and others and have no problem.

Have Rogers Extreme DC3 modum with the upgraded upload speeds.

When I come here BOOM it pop up in a secoind or two, with You Tube its taking about a min or more to upload?

PS...this is in no way an advertisement for Bell. I am not really a big fan of the huge corporation!

I see that sort of behaviour occasionally. It's just congestion somewhere. Try pausing to give it a chance to fill up the buffer.

I get this if I just type "youtube.com" in Chrome. If I type www.youtube.com it works great. Both ping to slightly different IP addresses so it's possible one of their servers is having issues

Actually, it doesn't make any difference if you use "www". The only difference is the www is an alias for the other name. Either way, you still get the same IP addresses.

$ host www.youtube.com
www.youtube.com is an alias for youtube-ui.l.google.com.
youtube-ui.l.google.com has address 173.194.43.8
youtube-ui.l.google.com has address 173.194.43.9
youtube-ui.l.google.com has address 173.194.43.4
youtube-ui.l.google.com has address 173.194.43.7
youtube-ui.l.google.com has address 173.194.43.3
youtube-ui.l.google.com has address 173.194.43.6
youtube-ui.l.google.com has address 173.194.43.14
youtube-ui.l.google.com has address 173.194.43.2
youtube-ui.l.google.com has address 173.194.43.1
youtube-ui.l.google.com has address 173.194.43.5
youtube-ui.l.google.com has address 173.194.43.0
youtube-ui.l.google.com has IPv6 address 2001:4860:800a::be

$ host youtube.com

Is it the same result with all videos or just a select few? I experience the same issue, and when I looked into it, I read that the more popular a video is, the faster it loads. I don't know if there's any truth to that, but it does seem that the more views a video has, the faster it loads.

With regards to JamesK's post, I'm getting different IP addresses when pinging youtube.com or www.youtube.com.

www.youtube.com --> 74.125.225.78
youtube.com --> 74.125.225.73

Either way (if it's an alias or not), the fact that going to www.youtube.com brings up the page instantly, vs just typing youtube.com and it takes a while is confusing.

This was done in Chrome. I tried in Internet Explorer and both youtube.com and www.youtube.com load quickly. I tried disabling all my extensions in Chrome and running with a clean slate and still had the issue (even after deleting cache). Also tried using both Google & Telus' DNS servers (with an ipconfig /flushdns when I switched).

Bizarre.

The host name only affects obtaining the IP address and is normally done only at the start of the connection. So, regardless of which name or alias, you will then obtain an IP address from the same group and the name no longer has any effect. It cannot affect performance when going to the same server. You use the host name and DNS the same way you'd use a phone book, to use the name to find the corresponding number. Once the browser has the IP address, it then uses that address to connect to the server and start the transfer. It would make absolutely no difference whether youtube.com or www.youtube.com was used to obtain the address 173.194.43.8.

I have problems with Youtube in Chrome if I do not delete the cache regularly.

I also added a command line parameter to limit the cache size.

I don't have that kind of problem when going to YouTube. The only times when it loads longer than the usual is when my internet connection is really bad. The only problem I have with YouTube is the buffering time. When I try to watch videos longer than 20 or 30 minutes, sometimes the buffer bar does not move at all.
